ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

March 9, 2024

Brooke Wyckoff

Ta'Niya Latson

Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Florida State Seminoles

Postgame Press Conference

NC State 69, Florida State 43

BROOKE WYCKOFF: We were just talking about it in the locker room, this exceeded a lot of people's expectations. Not ours. We were fired up to come here and knew what we wanted to do this week here.

Just proud of the focus, the energy, the belief that my team put into this week.

We ran up against a really good NC State team today, and hats off to them for the win. But I'm just so proud of what we have accomplished, and I really felt like we grew this week as a team, and this will prepare us for more success in the future.

Q. You ran into a buzz saw. You had it early for about four minutes and then NC State just took off. What did they do or what could you not do that made the difference?

BROOKE WYCKOFF: It was a couple things. We couldn't score the way that we would have liked. I think that was the biggest issue initially and throughout a couple of the quarters, was just not being able to knock down some shots.

But I thought we took good ones for the most part. That was our focus, to try and get some good shots, and they just didn't fall.

Then defensively we allowed too many points in the paint, obviously. They're big, and we didn't do a good job with our help or being physical enough.

They were determined to get the ball inside, as they should, and they did a good job on the boards.

It's a combination of not getting stops and not being able to hit shots, but I liked what we tried to do game plan-wise. It just wasn't our day.

Q. Coach, what seemed to just really be different about the quick turnaround and then today's game, particularly around the second quarter?

BROOKE WYCKOFF: Yeah, it was a quick turnaround. We played in the last game last night, and this was day three for us playing in less than 24 hours, so it's a lot to handle physically for our players, especially with the way we play, and we get up and down.

But I have to give them credit. They believed. They never stopped working, running the floor, battling on defense.

Like I said, the shots wouldn't fall today for us, and so that made it a little more difficult for us defensively.

Q. Ta'Niya, you guys didn't have the shots fall today, but you did a pretty good job getting up and down despite it being three games in three days. Is that a good sign going into the NCAA Tournament?

TA'NIYA LATSON: Yeah, I'm super proud of our fight even though like you said we didn't get the shots that we really wanted. But we fought hard to get here in the first place. Fatigue set in a little bit, but I feel like we stuck together through most of it.
