COGNIZANT CLASSIC

February 29, 2024

Chad Ramey

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, USA

PGA National Champion Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Take us through the day and how well it went.

CHAD RAMEY: I started off pretty strong from the get-go, hit two solid shots on 1, made probably 25-foot putt or so, maybe 30 feet. Then the whole front side I was pretty solid through the bag. Hit it well, putted well, chipped in once. Very solid through the whole bag.

Q. Where were you in the FedExCup points last year going into the fall?

CHAD RAMEY: Going into the fall, shoot, 110-ish.

Q. So you were right on that bubble?

CHAD RAMEY: A little bit.

Q. Did you feel the urgency to play well in the fall?

CHAD RAMEY: Yeah, there's no doubt, especially getting in that Top 125 gets you to THE PLAYERS and stuff like that, so yeah, definitely a little sense of urgency there.

Q. Did you find anything last week in Mexico that you were able to build off of today?

CHAD RAMEY: A little bit, yeah. I've been doing a few different things with my swing, and I'm seeing a lot of good out of it, so I'm just trying to stick with it.

Q. What was wrong with your swing do you think? What's your biggest tendency that can get you a little off?

CHAD RAMEY: So I'm just trying to get a little more rotary on the way through. I tend to stop on it and kind of tilt back. Just trying to get a little more rotary.

Q. How long ago does Punta Cana seem like?

CHAD RAMEY: It seems like a good while ago.

Q. Do you still look back on that week and --

CHAD RAMEY: Oh, yeah, I saw draw back from that week all the time. There's a lot of good things that happened there.

Q. Talk about the mentality change you have to go through here. This was a course you kind of held on, and now knowing it's going to take a lower score, is it a different approach to how you be aggressive and all that?

CHAD RAMEY: I don't think it'll be a different approach at all. I got a good break this morning with there not being any wind. I fully expect the rest of the week the wind to blow. I've never been here and it not blow. But to take advantage of the calm conditions is definitely a plus.

Q. You mentioned getting a break. You've got to have skill and luck to win. Do you think it would be luck if you guys went out and played tomorrow afternoon with no wind and it picked up today?

CHAD RAMEY: That would be pretty lucky, no doubt.

Q. We know the Bear Trap can play pretty difficult, but 5, 6 and 7 can be a pretty tough stretch. Can you speak to how that played today?

CHAD RAMEY: They played tough. I chipped in on 6, and then I hit a perfect 3-iron in there to five or six feet on 7. They were still playing tough. I just hit two really good shots and took advantage of them.

Q. If the wind picks up over the weekend or even tomorrow, how can those holes get challenging?

CHAD RAMEY: Just small greens with a lot of trouble. The wind just amplifies any kind of miss you hit.
