AFRICA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

February 22, 2024

Jordan Burnand

Malelane, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Quick Quotes

Q. 4-under par 68 today. Talk about your performance.

JORDAN BURNAND: Yeah, look, it was solid again. Started off difficult, one or two bogeys in the first couple holes, and then I sort of got momentum. Started with one or two birdies on 5 and 6 and kept the momentum going and tried to play percentage golf. I think on this golf course percentage golf is key. Very, very happy with the round and we're going to rest up now.

Q. Talk about the eagle.

JORDAN BURNAND: Yeah, the eagle was cool. I got lucky on that hole yesterday, managed to make birdie. But today hit a great drive down the fairway, hit a good 9-iron to about 15, 20 foot and then holed the putt down the hill, so that really kick-started the round and got me back to 2-under par for the round, and then from there we could build.

Q. Two birdies on 17 and 18, strong finish. You must be quite happy with that.

JORDAN BURNAND: Yeah, it's always nice to finish birdie-birdie, and to make a birdie on the 18th hole is always special. It's not the easiest of holes. Even with 146 metres in just out of the rough, it's quite an intimidating shot, so to finish it off with the up-and-down out of the bunker is really, really special, and I'm happy with that.

Q. Very much in contention going into the weekend. You've put yourself in a good position.

JORDAN BURNAND: Yes. I think for now we don't really think about that. You do your work now and then rest up, have a good night's rest, then come out tomorrow and perform as well as you can. At the end of the day, it's 72 holes. We'll see what happens, and we can go from there.

Q. Altin seems like the man to beat at the moment. Have you got any words for him?

JORDAN BURNAND: Yeah, look, Altin and I have done a few trips together. I call him Meineke. We've done a few trips together, and he's a really, really good friend of mine, and I see he's had a great round of golf today. I think he's 6-under par or 7-under par. For him to shoot that score on such a tough golf course is unbelievable, and I'm very happy for him.
