February 4, 2024

Chun-Wei Wu

Pattaya, Thailand

Press Conference

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Delighted to be joined today by our 2024 Women's Amateur Champion Chun-Wei Wu.

Congratulations.

CHUN-WEI WU: Thank you.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: To start with, can you tell us how it feels to be the champion?

CHUN-WEI WU: Incredible. It was my last day to learn the English word, and I am very happy to be a champion and very happy Chinese Taipei has a champion again.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Last time we were at Siam Country Club, Tiffany won.

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: She was your roommate.

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Do you think that was good luck for you this week?

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Who was your roommate this week? Who shared a room with you?

CHUN-WEI WU: Oh, Hsin Chun Liao, Selina.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Maybe next time she'll be the champion?

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Can you talk to us a little bit about your round today? What were you thinking? I know it was a tough round.

CHUN-WEI WU: Today, I think it was not good because I got a lot of bogeys. I think I need to learn in the final round, how to make maybe 68 or 69. It will be easier.

So I think it's not good, but I'm very happy to become the champion.

Q. Congratulations.

CHUN-WEI WU: Thank you.

Q. Can you tell us at the start of the week if you felt confident that you had a chance to win?

CHUN-WEI WU: Actually, no. I just did what I could do. Round one, round two, I was more confident.

Q. So, today, were you looking at the leaderboard? Did you see that your lead was down to one shot after 14 holes? What were your thoughts on those last four holes?

CHUN-WEI WU: No. I just made a putt and came back, and that's it. Nothing special. Did not see the leaderboard, yeah.

Q. (Regarding Yani Tseng) Do you know about her, or is she an idol of yours?

CHUN-WEI WU: In Taiwan, she's a very good player, and she's my idol. Yeah, I like her.

Q. Have you ever met her?

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes, but we have not played a tournament together.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Can I ask you were you nervous on the course today?

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes. Very nervous. I could not eat and I could not sleep. I woke up at 3:00, and I couldn't sleep.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Now that you are the champion, you get to play in three major championships.

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: Are you looking forward to those?

CHUN-WEI WU: I am looking forward to seeing Hyo Joo Kim. She's my idol. I really like her.

Q. Just following up that, have you ever been to Augusta National or St Andrews where the AIG Women's Open is this year, or what do you know about those two courses?

CHUN-WEI WU: I have not gone there before but I'm looking forward. This year I will go, I can see the golf course.

OLIVIA MCMILLAN: You will also get the play the golf course. Are you excited to play the Old Course?

CHUN-WEI WU: Yes, very excited.

Q. A lot of players are taking pictures of the trophy. Did you take a picture this year or even before, maybe two years ago? Did you take a picture of the trophy or a picture of the trophy with yourself?

CHUN-WEI WU: No, but after this press conference, I'm going to take a picture.

Q. Can I just take you back to the round? Can you talk us through the 17th hole? Your drive went very much to the right-hand side. Did you mean that? What club did you hit for the second shot? And how far was that? And then, obviously, the part that was crucial.

CHUN-WEI WU: It's downhill and 133 yards. I used a 9-iron. It was downwind, so I think my iron was just enough to go onto the green. My putt 15 yards, it's downhill, and, yeah, that's it.
