THE LPGA DRIVE ON CHAMPIONSHIP

January 26, 2024

Minji Kang

Bradenton, Florida, USA

Bradenton Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. I'm here with Minji Kang after her second round at the LPGA drive on championship, second round 69. Can you just walk through your game maybe today and what you thought went well?

MINJI KANG: Today, my front nine, I had little up-and-down in the beginning. And I was trying to be patient and I was waiting for my first birdie, and after my first birdie on hole 9, I think I feel better. So I tried to play my game from the back nine, and, yes, I think that works.

Q. Then you had birdies on 11 and 12. Anything in particular, too, about maybe like your putting or your short game or irons or driver that stuck out the past two days?

MINJI KANG: Actually, yesterday was windy and was pretty calm today. But my irons was a little bit -- some of good, some of bad, but still, it was not bad. When I missed the green, I had a good up-and-down with my, like, bunker shot and the chip shots, and I was focusing on my -- the short putts and that really helps today.

Q. And how much experience do you have playing in Florida? Have you played in Florida a lot?

MINJI KANG: Comparing to other states, I think I pretty -- I think I played pretty much in Florida from last year, and like the Amateur tournaments, when I came to the U.S. to the first time. I think I'm a little bit used to it, yeah.

Q. That helps this week, and how have you liked Bradenton so far?

MINJI KANG: I really love the course out here. It's really in good shape. And the weather is very good. Actually, I'm from Georgia, and it's really chilly out there. Yeah, I really love it here.

Q. There's been a lot of fans out so far and there's probably going to be a lot more fans out this weekend. What's it going to be like to play in front of some big crowds out here?

MINJI KANG: I've never played in front of the big crowds yet, but maybe I can enjoy and focus a little bit on my game and just have fun out there.
