THE SENTRY

January 5, 2024

Matt Fitzpatrick

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA

Plantation Course at Kapalua

Quick Quotes

Q. Great round today, eagle on 5. Can you talk a little bit about it today?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, played solid all day. Couple of loose ones around the middle of the round, but I felt like I battled well and putted really well again today. I think that was kind of the big thing that keeps the momentum going, gives you talk the opportunities when you've got 'em and, yeah, it was good to sort of make some on the back nine.

Q. Did you expect more wind than we have seen these first couple days?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Not necessarily. I feel like it's been pretty calm in the mornings and picked up as the day's gone on. Last five of our holes yesterday were pretty windy, but, fortunately, the majority were kind of downwind and helping us. But today we didn't really have much wind at all, so it's been a nice bonus.

Q. If it stays like this, it's going to be a real horse race to the finish. You got to get low numbers when you can.

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. There's a lot of opportunities out there. You're not hitting a lot of club into some holes and some of the pins are favorable with the slope, so you got to take advantage of that, and you got to hit some good shots. It's easy to kind of say that the course is easy, but you still got to do it. Yeah, looking forward to getting going on the weekend.

Q. How much does experience or course knowledge or whatever you want to call it, how much does that help on this course?

MATT FITZPATRICK: A little bit. I don't think it's massive compared to some other golf courses. I think I feel like it's a fairly generous golf course off the tee. I think maybe a little bit of knowledge on the greens about the grains, but other than that not much.

Q. Any major difference between yesterday and today about how the course played?

MATT FITZPATRICK: No, pretty similar.
