THE SENTRY

January 5, 2024

Tyrrell Hatton

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA

Plantation Course at Kapalua

Quick Quotes

Q. 11-under, just an excellent round. If we can get some comments on a fantastic day.

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, it was a really good day.

If I'm being honest, body didn't feel great, and tee to green wasn't, didn't feel amazing. I had a mad day on the greens. Every putt I seemed to look at went in, which is a nice feeling. Hopefully that continues over the weekend.

Q. Take us through that finish. Three birdies and an eagle there on the last one, your last four holes.

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, it was a nice way to bounce back after making bogey on 14. Just one of the easiest holes out here and, yeah, definitely pretty frustrated walking on to the 15th tee.

But, yeah, nice to birdie that and 16, 17.

Then the one on 18, it was about 90 feet or something, that's just a bonus. Just hoping to roll it up somewhere close and, yeah, thankfully, the flag got in the way and the ball fell in the hole.

Q. I'm just wondering, have you ever had a finish like that, birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle, on TOUR, ever in your life, have you ever been 5-under on the final four holes of a golf tournament?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I was 5-under for the last five at PLAYERS last year, so that was obviously a nice one. But I actually think 11-under is my lowest round as a pro, so that's something to be proud of. Maybe a surprise to do it in the second round back to start the year, after how long I've had off.

Q. You said your body wasn't feeling great, what was going on?

TYRRELL HATTON: Just very stiff. I think traveling from England, the 25 and a half hours, door to door, and my body still, I wouldn't say I looked after myself in the December period, maybe that played a part (smiling.) Yeah, so body hasn't been moving well. I'm sure if you had seen some flight tracers of some of my tee shots you would be disgusted. They're kind of going into not too bad of spots, so, yeah, managing fairly well at the moment.

Q. What kind of frame of mind does that put you in when you shoot this number and you really weren't working in the off-season to get ready that much for the tournament, according to you?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I guess it shows how much of a stupid game it is. Obviously, I putted amazing today, that's the big thing for how my score ended up as low as it was. Yeah, with how bad my body felt, I'm surprised that, going out this morning, that score was just not even entering my mind. It's more probably like over, over par.

Q. 11-over?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah. That would be some effort around here. I'll probably jinx it now and have an absolute shocker tomorrow, but time will tell.

Q. How do you get from England to here or how did you?

TYRRELL HATTON: Heathrow to L.A., then we had a three-hour stop over in L.A., sat on that plane for 90 minutes and it went technical, so you have to get off that plane, wait another hour and a half to get on another plane. Then you fly from L.A. here and land, yeah, about four hours later or three hours later than you had planned.

Q. When did you get in?

TYRRELL HATTON: Ended up, I think we landed about 11:30 Saturday evening. Because it was so far away from England, we wouldn't normally travel on Saturday before a tournament week, it would be like a Monday, but...

Q. It will be fun to see what you do now that you're loosened up.

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, pray for my body these next six weeks because I'm playing Sony next week, and flying straight from there to Dubai, and Dubai for six days, and flying back to Orlando for five days, before flying back to West Coast. I mean, I'm a plank of wood as it is, by the end of that trip it's going to be brutal.

Q. Did you work on your game prior to coming here?

TYRRELL HATTON: If you class hitting balls for half an hour every day in my dad's studio for, what, maybe a week and a half in the build-up to coming here. I mean, I had six weeks off after Ryder Cup, played Dubai, then from finishing in Dubai to coming here I played one round of golf. So, yeah.

Q. Low expectations.

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, but still equally frustrated at bad shots.
