THE ANNIKA DRIVEN BY GAINBRIDGE AT PELICAN

November 11, 2023

Megan Khang

Belleair, Florida, USA

Pelican Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Joined by Megan Khang after the third round here at the Pelican Golf Club. Just what was working so well for you today? Eight birdies on the round.

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly the front nine, it was kind of pretty good ball striking. I definitely straightened out my driver from the past two days.

Like the back nine I made some really long birdie putts and one really long par putt that kind of kept my round together. It was just fun out there. It's always good when you have a great pairing as well.

Q. Was there anything maybe you took away from your first two rounds heading into today that's maybe allowed you to elevate your game a little bit?

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly, my ball striking has been pretty solid I felt this week. A little frustrated with my driver, typically being my strong suit. Didn't hit as many fairways as I would like the first few days. Today, you know, it was nice to only miss one, even that being like just off the fairway.

Overall really just kind of, again, we're putting on such smooth greens that really trusting myself, the stroke, and really trying to make them when you do give yourself a good chance out here.

Q. How does this course suit your strengths? What have you been able to take advantage of?

MEGAN KHANG: I've been working hard on my putting, and I think given, like I said, these greens are pure, it's kind of shown these balls, these putts run true and easy, and really just got to trust yourself, and I think that's what it comes down to, capitalizing when you can.

Q. Since your win at the CPKC Women's Open you've had two top 10 finishes, the Solheim Cup. Just how much of a confidence boost has that been for you and your game?

MEGAN KHANG: They always say the first one is the hardest. You know, I would like to differ. I think every win is hard.

At the same time, it's great to have that first one under my belt this year.

I think it just kind of speaks to like the work that I've been putting in in the off weeks and throughout the season. Like my dad says, trusting the process and staying patient and maturing as I've kind of grown up out here on tour.

Q. Do you feel like the monkey off your back? We have talked to a couple people and they said Megan is going to get her first one and it's going to flood, the gates are going to open. Do you feel similar to that, or how do you perceive it?

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly, it's hard to win out here. There is so many great golfers, great women, and it's pretty impressive with Celine winning four times this year, me getting the first. I always joke hopefully it's not the last.

Knowing I can pull it off and I can do it, it definitely gives me a bit more confidence saying, hey, like you can do it, you've done it, you did it in a playoff. You pulled off some crazy shots coming down the stretch and some good strokes.

So knowing that I can do it and I have done it definitely helped build the confidence for future positions.

Q. Annika alum. How much of a full circle kind of week has this been for you?

MEGAN KHANG: It's pretty cool. So like I played in the AJGA growing up. Didn't go to college. But, again, ANNIKA Award recipient.

It's pretty cool because she's recently been coming back to the game of golf like competing-wise in U.S. Women's Open, and I've had pleasure to play practice rounds with her and pick her brain about when it takes to win a major.

I think she's a great example of like leaving a legacy behind. She could have easily kind of had her family and drifted off into the sunset, but she just loves the game so much and just gives back to the community, and it's a great example to follow.

Hopefully I'll follow those footsteps and create my own foundation one day and give back to generations to come.
