MLB WORLD SERIES: DIAMONDBACKS VS RANGERS

November 1, 2023

Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Chase Field

Arizona Diamondbacks

Pregame 5 Press Conference

Q. Obviously you've still got a lot to go, you still want to do some more things this season. But on a personal level and on a team level this has been your best Major League season. Can you reflect on what that's meant to you?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: It's been a dream season both individually and collectively. I don't think I could have asked for more.

Q. I know you've got a big game to play today, but -- opportunity to ask you, how much have you really enjoyed playing with this clubhouse, this team, and would you like to stay?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: A lot. I've felt like we're a family here. Very grateful for the whole collective group.

Q. What are some highlights from the season that you're going to remember for years and years and years?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: There's been a lot. Since I've arrived in Spring Training, I think mainly just that love, that passion that these youngsters play with. I think that's going to be what I'm going to remember most.

Q. Obviously you guys had to win two in a row in Philadelphia. You did it. Now you've got to win three in a row. Is there any nerves or anything in the locker room? Or did it seem exactly the same today as it has all postseason?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: The mood is the same, nothing changes. It's the same. Just like yesterday we have a game today to win. We don't look ahead as far as how many we have to win. Just go out there and win today.

Q. Obviously you come from a great baseball family. Your dad is a legend in Cuba. We know about Yuli. He's played in a World Series. Now you've played in a World Series. What's it been like for your family to see you doing the things that your brother and your dad have done, and how happy are they for that?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: It's been great. It's been a source of pride to be able to be here with my family. Just not long ago we were sitting up in the stands just taking it all in, observing everything with my dad and my brother.

Q. When you were traded from the Blue Jays, what was your reaction and how did you handle it?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: The first hour, I'll admit, it kind of impacted me pretty well. But then after that I had to change the mentality. And thankful for the teammates here, I was able to kind of make that adjustment and feel comfortable.

Q. Did you and Gabby talk a lot during the offseason, going into the first Spring Training with the Diamondbacks?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: From the moment we heard about the trade, we got into constant communication, said we had to pack our bags together. And it's been great ever since.

Q. How did you settle on purple for the hair color? It's not a team color versus the other ones you could have picked?

LOURDES GURRIEL JR.: Nothing in particular. In the past I've had blond, I've had blue. During the offseason my wife and I decided on, let's try purple. I liked it and the fans have liked it a lot as well.
