MLB WORLD SERIES: DIAMONDBACKS VS RANGERS

October 27, 2023

Jordan Montgomery

Arlington, Texas, USA

Globe Life Field

Texas Rangers

Pregame 1 Press Conference

Q. How much energy did you expend Monday night, and did it take you any longer to recover because of that getting ready for this one?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: I mean, coming out of the bullpen when you're not used to it, you just pitched, is tiring. But back on my five-day and tomorrow will be my five-day, so I'll be good.

Q. How was that experience for you coming out of the bullpen? When did Boch tell you maybe to be ready and how did you go through that?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: I knew after Game 5 when I lined up for my bullpen that I knew I was going to be available for some innings.

Really tried to just stay as mentally prepared as I could and go through a couple of different scenarios in my head and just be ready when the phone call came.

Q. So when you came in, you trotted in, you had the whole deal down. You looked like you're a guy that did that thing a lot. Did it not feel like it?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: Once you're out there, it's just about getting outs. I really just tried to throw strikes and expand when I wanted to.

Q. This Diamondbacks lineup is fast, likes to steal bases, what challenge does that present to you as a pitcher and how do you manage that in the game?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: Just going to have to mix up my times. Can't get caught in the same rhythm, and try to mix in as many slide steps as I can, give Jonah a chance, and hopefully I can pick off a couple of guys.

Q. What's the biggest way that you've evolved over the course of your career, especially these last two seasons, to kind of elevate to where you are now?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: I think I'm kind of just staying in better counts. Kind of staying in the attack on hitters and staying in control of the game as much as I can. Throwing my fastball both sides of the plate. My curveball, I feel like my shapes have all gotten better, and just repeating my delivery much better.

Q. Have messages and advice in New York, St. Louis and here from the coaches and analytics people and what you should be doing been any different?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: No, not really, just really trying to attack hitters.

Q. Were you watching the game at Palace today?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: Yes. My brother just texted me.

Q. All good?

JORDAN MONTGOMERY: Yeah.
