AL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: RANGERS VS ASTROS

October 15, 2023

Evan Carter

Houston, Texas, USA

Minute Maid Park

Texas Rangers

Postgame 1 Press Conference

Rangers - 2, Astros - 0

Q. What did you see on that catch and did you think you had a chance to double Altuve, did you notice what was going on on that play?

EVAN CARTER: Yeah, you know, I had no idea if we were going to be able to double him up or not. Once I caught it I'm just going to get it in as quick as possible, you never know what's going to happen, getting into the infielders and just letting them make some plays.

As far as what I saw on the fly ball, going to get it, that's all outfield is about, just going and getting it.

Q. This is your first time playing here. And this is not your everyday left field. How did you prepare to learn the nooks and crannies of this place?

EVAN CARTER: Yeah, you know, yesterday and today both Robbie Grossman, Travis Jankowski, and BP and whatever else out there with me, showing me the ropes. Hey, this is how this plays. This is where I would set up at. And obviously Robbie played here for a while so he knows, and he's been out there, I'm going to trust what he has to say and it was a big help for me.

Q. What does it mean for you to make such huge contributions to the team so early in your career?

EVAN CARTER: It's awesome. Just coming out here and helping the team win, that's what it's all about. That's why I'm here. If I can help that's what I want to do. At the end of the day all that matters is if the Rangers win to me, so that's the goal.

Q. What did you see that you were able to take second on the hustle play early in the game that resulted in a run?

EVAN CARTER: They always preach to us, especially the ones that can run a little bit, just, hey, it's a double until it's not. So that's kind of my mindset. I'm going to get a double until the outfielder tells me that I need to stop. I didn't feel like I was told I needed to stop, so I just kept going.

Q. How are you able to do all this at age 21 in terms of taking it all in and excelling at this point?

EVAN CARTER: I appreciate it. I mean I'm just having fun, that's what it's all about. We're playing a game. And it's a fun one, too. I'm just out here having a great time. I have a lot of great teammates around me. We enjoy coming to work every day competing. It's not over yet. We're still on the road, we're not done. So that's been a lot of fun, though.

Q. Knowing that Game 1 is out of the way to secure the win, what does that do for the confidence in the clubhouse but also more specifically to keep your composure going back to Arlington for Game 3?

EVAN CARTER: We had a couple of days off. It's great to come off those off days and come out with a win. Especially on the road. I've never played here before and obviously it was loud, you know, home-field advantage definitely goes to them. But it's a big one, for sure, getting as many as you can on the road is great.

Q. Are you aware that you don't generally win six games in a row to start the playoffs?

EVAN CARTER: I am aware. Hopefully we can keep it rolling. The Rangers are hot right now. Pitching and hitting alike, so it's been a lot of fun to watch.
