Matthew Fitzpatrick

Susan Fitzpatrick

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. What a day, it's been five days and finally got the third round of golf. Birdie on the last at the Home of Golf. How does it feel?

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK: Yeah, amazing. Obviously nice way to finish there. Played well on those last few holes coming in. Mum got us off a great on the back nine and she played great all day again.

Q. There's been some amazing up-and-downs, last year you described it as one of the best moments of your life walking down 18. Fast forward a year, you're up there, obviously golf still to be played but how would you top it this time around?

SUSAN FITZPATRICK: It's been such a great week. It's amazing they managed to get us out today but it's been such a great day today. I enjoyed the course and played at a great pace. It's been lovely so it's been another great week.

Q. Who is the boss? Who leads it? Is it Mum or the professional golfer out there?

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK: I just helped guide her around. One of my close friends, Josh, is on the bag, and he's done great helping her out. We had a great week and really dovetailed well this week. I think last year we struggled on that front, every time I made a birdie, Mum would make a birdie and she's been brilliant this week.

Q. Who had more involvement: The mate, Josh, or your son, Matt?

SUSAN FITZPATRICK: Josh. He's a good friend of Matt's and he caddied for me last year as well. He's had the day off today, and he wanted to finish the job. He's been green reader, right club, right lines. He's done a brilliant job.

Q. You have eight DP Tour wins yourself. What would be more valuable for you? You've kind of been there and done that, is it a win as a too many event with your mum or the individual prize?

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK: Oh, it's got to be the team's. It is true. Even with all my wins, aside from a major, you forget about them in the future, and you'll always remember the one that you won with your mum, so doesn't get better than that.

To be fair, both my parents, if I've won nine times, I would say they have only missed two or three of those, so probably bodes well. Yeah, we've had a great day.

Q. And is Dunhill special because you can play with your mum?

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK: Oh, yeah, a hundred percent. A hundred per cent. From when I won the U.S. Open last year, I knew that the criteria was you had to win a major or Top 15 in the world to be able to pick your partner here. That was one of the first things we spoke about, if we can play Dunhill together, and that's what we did last year and last year was clearly a warmup for this year. We did very well this year.

Q. You've both been playing fantastically well and you had an amazing time last year. How does it feel to be back this year?

SUSAN FITZPATRICK: Played well at Kingsbarns on Friday.

MATTHEW FITZPATRICK: You played well today.

SUSAN FITZPATRICK: I did play all right today. I think it took me a few holes to get warmed up, but yeah, it's just been sort of perfect golf conditions today. Really enjoyed it.
