ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 9, 2023

Ryan Fox

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. You've put on a great fight. How do you feel with your 65 today?

RYAN FOX: I feel like it's going to be a couple short. To be honest I played great today. I think I hit all 18 greens, which is always a nice thing to do around here, and was cold with the putter for the most part. I made a couple through the middle of the round and that was about it. Yeah, had a couple nice chances on 14, 15, and if they had gone in, things would have been a little more interesting but obviously to shoot 7-under on a Monday with a chance, you feel like you've done enough. Obviously Fitz is playing great. I'm happy.

Q. I'd imagine it's very challenging defending a title but you're at the Home of Golf as well. A bit of a windless start out there; is that what it felt like?

RYAN FOX: Yeah, it was kind of weird it. Felt like the breeze might get up early. It was out of the southwest, the prevailing here, and you thought, might get up a little bit this afternoon and make it interesting, and then it just died when we were about 7. And we had a good stretch from 7 through 12 when there was no wind and it picked up on the east later on and made a couple of those tee shots down the back nine slightly more interesting than what we could have been. A day like this on the Old Course, obviously after all the rain we've had, no rain, very little wind, it doesn't really get any better than that.

Q. What were you thinking at the today? Because you won the BMW a couple weeks ago, you charged from behind, and I think you fancy your charges. Did that week and finish give you a lot of confidence?

RYAN FOX: Yeah, I know I feel comfortable in the position, in the last round with a chance. I knew I needed a low one today. Fitz is playing great golf and still on a high from the Ryder Cup two weeks ago now. It was always going to be a hard ask and I figure if I made a few birdies early, I could get on a run and it was a little bit of a slower start and made some nice ones through the turn but was probably too little, too late at that point.
