NL DIVISION SERIES: DIAMONDBACKS VS DODGERS

October 7, 2023

Geraldo Perdomo

Los Angeles, California, USA

Dodger Stadium

Arizona Diamondbacks

Pregame 1 Press Conference

Q. You're pretty loose for a guy going into this series. What's the mentality as you approach what lies ahead?

GERALDO PERDOMO: My mentality today is just trying to get on base for my team. I have a really good guy behind me, so something can happen when I get on base.

Q. What was the experience like for you playing in your first postseason games in Milwaukee?

GERALDO PERDOMO: It was an amazing experience, honestly. I played in the playoff in Dominican winter ball. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

For me that's the experience again in winter ball, it's basically the same here. There's a lot of fans. It's loud. So I take advantage of that right now.

Q. You guys have had some struggles at Dodger Stadium. What do you think will be different about this series for you guys here?

GERALDO PERDOMO: Like everything can change. I think we was good the first two series early in the month -- early in the season, sorry. And when we came here we were struggling.

Now everything's different. We're in the postseason. We have different mentality. I think everybody's fresh. We came here to compete. So we'll see what's going to happen.

Q. We talked a little bit in New York about you promising Torey to work hard to set the table, just get on base for him. And you did that in Milwaukee to an amazing degree, setting the table for Corbin and for Ketel. How did that feel to be able to execute that plan so well?

GERALDO PERDOMO: For me it feels amazing, honestly. I know what I can do. But at the same time I don't like to be too much aggressive sometimes, because I like to work the pitcher a lot.

Like I said in the beginning, Corbin is a really good hitter. Marte is behind me, Tommy Pham, Walker, those guys. If I get on base all the time I know those guys can do something.

And you guys can see in Milwaukee, every time I get on base we score. So I'm really proud and thank God because he blessed me with this ability, every time I get on base and something can happen right away.

Q. Does the way you played in Milwaukee in those games increase your confidence coming into this series?

GERALDO PERDOMO: It's the same confidence no matter what. No matter whether we lost or won. Doesn't matter what we face. We know the Dodgers a really good team, we still have the same confidence, no matter what.

Q. How do you maintain that confidence, no matter who you're playing?

GERALDO PERDOMO: I think it's God. I prepared for this game before. I pray before every game and I think it's coming from him.

Q. What's it like playing for Torey Lovullo?

GERALDO PERDOMO: It's amazing. He's like my family. He tries to give me all the advice to be better in the future. And he's great. He's great. Be around those guys, Torey, Benny and Mike, all those guys, like be at home.

Q. Do you take as much pride in working a walk as you do getting a base hit?

GERALDO PERDOMO: Yeah, most of the time, yeah, for sure.

Q. We thought we saw you in Milwaukee do a little bit of a Juan Soto after taking a pitch. Did you notice yourself doing that?

GERALDO PERDOMO: No, I didn't realize that. I didn't try to do anything like that. I just tried to put a little bit of pressure to the pitcher, but I don't try to do any other stuff. Probably that was on accident.

Q. I know you really enjoyed your experience in your first All-Star Game. How do you think that might have set you up for this experience in the playoffs?

GERALDO PERDOMO: It was amazing. Like I told you guys during the All-Star, I didn't expect that, but I think God had something special for us.

This group we have here is amazing. It's not about me. It's about everybody. Corbin, he have crazy years. Walker. Marte. It's not about me, you know what I mean? It's about everyone. Everyone, we put a little bit of effort in every single day and I think that's why we're here right now.

Q. Merrill Kelly is obviously looking for his first win against the Dodgers this year. Just how much confidence do you have in him to really turn it around, especially in the postseason?

GERALDO PERDOMO: We have confidence in him. He's one of the two, like, aces for us. He can be the one, second one after Gallen. But we are very confident on him. We know he can do it. He's been pitching well, really great before. I think if we hit tonight he's going to win for sure.

Q. Do you have butterflies yet?

GERALDO PERDOMO: Not yet. I don't need it.

Q. What are your thoughts about facing Kershaw on this stage?

GERALDO PERDOMO: Just try to get on base. That's all. We know he's really good. He's like two, three times Cy Young, something like that. But that's our mentality. Get on base, make him work today.

Q. You've faced this team and Peralta this season. What's it like being on this stage, seeing a guy you went to war with. Now you're battling against him on the stage?

GERALDO PERDOMO: It's fun, honestly. I don't know how to explain. Peralta, he was really good when he was here. And we'll see what's going to happen today, you know.

We just need to have fun today. It's for us and for the fans. Everybody have to enjoy.
