SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 6, 2023

Beau Hossler

Jackson, Mississippi, USA

Country Club of Jackson

Quick Quotes

Q. 5-under 67, 12 through 17. If we can get some thoughts on your round.

BEAU HOSSLER: Honestly, like really shaky start. The warmup really irritated me. It was not raining but misting and windy, and I was like, wow. I think I wasn't in the mental -- I wasn't ready for it. I didn't think it was in the forecast, and then it popped up and was miserable for about two hours. I think I was a little irritable to start.

Made a bad bogey on the first hole and then hit an awesome wedge shot on 12 to like a foot from the rough, and that settled me down, and then like you said, I got on a really nice stretch.

All day I hit some really, really nice wedge shots. I'm a little grumpy right now because I feel like I should have made -- I had putts inside 10 feet the last three holes and missed all three of them. But looking back on the round, I obviously did some really, really good stuff. Was in position to score pretty much all day, and at the end of the day, I think I'm 9-under. What's the lead, maybe 13 or so? I'll be in a good enough spot going into the weekend to hopefully have a really good weekend.

Q. Take us through the eagle on 15.

BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah, that was nice. Lucky I hit a really nice shot, but for it to bounce perfectly to like 12 feet was fortunate, and then hit a nice putt, and it went in. Yeah, that was a pretty nice stretch. I want to say I was probably 6-under in six holes or something.

Q. You've got to be pleased. It seemed like so much was going against you early, to then turn it around like that.

BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah, for sure. To make that birdie on 12 was huge. It just kind of settled me down. Then, like I said, hit some other wedges where I didn't really even have to putt. They were kind of tap-ins, and that's always nicer than grinding all day.

So it was kind of in a way a stress-free round, even though I certainly think it could have been three, four, five shots lower.

Q. You're 58th on the points list. 51 through 60 is the big number right now. Is that something you're thinking about early in the fall or not quite yet?

BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah, I scheduled -- I did my schedule for the fall around that. It's obviously a big deal. Try not to focus on it when I'm out here, but certainly I think you'd be dumb not to understand the importance of that, and it's obviously significant and worth playing a little bit more at this time of year if that means to get into a few of those tournaments.

Was definitely disappointed to not finish in the top 50 after Memphis, but winning takes care of stuff, so hopefully win a golf tournament here. I like the way that I'm playing. I'm happy with how I'm playing. It's good to get reps in tournaments on the tough that I'm working on, and I'm trending in the right direction.
