ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 5, 2023

Sebastian Soderberg

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. Opening round of 64, talk us through it.

SEBASTIAN SÖDERBERG: Just got off to quite the amazing start. I was 7-under through eight, and missed a 5-footer on the hole, I didn't make birdie on 4. Just found the fairways and the wedges were close. It was quite easy the first ten holes or so. Then you kind of turn around going into the wind and rained a little bit more.

Yeah, I thought I played pretty good the last eight holes as well. I just didn't get close enough. Didn't really hole the putts but yeah, felt good to finish with a birdie.

Q. Once you make the turn with those first nines holes under your belt, do you get an idea this could be a course record round?

SEBASTIAN SÖDERBERG: I tried to think about just one shot at a time because I know when you're going out there the front nine, and with the little bit of helping breeze and no rain; it started raining going into the wind, so two completely different nines, really.

Yeah, obviously you know, you're thinking about how low can I go, but yeah, I just didn't quite get close to the pins. Still very happy.

Q. Not missed a cut since the British Masters and some very big weeks in there with some very strong fields, The Scottish Open, The Irish Open, and of course the BMW PGA. You must come in with an extra stride? Yourself and a lot more confidence.

SEBASTIAN SÖDERBERG: I've had one or two or three really good rounds for a while, I feel like. Just always been one or two bad rounds every week. So the weekends, they haven't been what I wanted in the last two months or so. I feel like there's a lot of good golf in me so I just have to try to clean up the bad golf a little more and try to get around a little better.

Q. Tomorrow you've got Carnoustie in what will be sunny weather and a little bit of wind. How important is it to come away from 18, after 18 holes there with a good round?

SEBASTIAN SÖDERBERG: Well, Carnoustie is the one where you feel like it can kind of get away from you if you're not playing well. One of my favourite courses; it's just such a beauty. There's still a lot of golf left. If I can just get a decent round in, I'll be happy.
