ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 5, 2023

David Law

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. 66 to open your account here at the Old Course. Reflect on today's round and tell us how you feel it went today. Two shots than better than how you started last year?

DAVID LAW: It was a good day. We got a little bit lucky with the weather. My front nine, the back nine, it played sort of flat calm the whole way and the wind picked up, so got the front nine to play. Had the those holes downwind, so that made a difference, and I holed a few putts as well so nice to see the ball going in the hole.

Q. Looking at your record the last half a dozen tournaments, your game, your form is trending in the right direction?

DAVID LAW: It is, yeah I started chipping and putting quite a bit better. And then the last two weeks, France and going into this week, my irons have been much better.

The whole season, I've driven the ball a lot better than I've done in previous years but iron play has been quite a bit worse. I think we figured that out a little bit. Yeah, two weeks ago in France was quite a big improvement from where it's been. Felt quite similar today.

Q. Out of the three courses, Carnoustie generally tends to bite the players a little harder than the other two courses. I think you got the worst draw last year, tough conditions. Looks like you've got nothing but sunshine tomorrow?

DAVID LAW: Looks like it's going to be a windy day which I think Carnoustie, it's never overly playable in any weather. But you can run the ball in there a little bit and you can play, and Kingsbarns, it's difficult to run the ball and it's difficult to get it close. It will be a tough test tomorrow but it will be dry so I suppose that's the main thing.

Q. Weeks like this, the fanfare, everybody looks around the corner, recognising faces. Do you still have the same competitive mindset coming into the Alfred Dunhill Links?

DAVID LAW: It's a little tricky in that respect. I don't think you can be as intense as you would be in a normal week. We're out a little bit longer than we normally would be. I think you need to embrace the format. It's a little more relaxed. I've certainly enjoyed my day here. I had a nice partner in Nick Acquavell, and we had a good score as a team as well.
