NL WILD CARD SERIES: MARLINS VS PHILLIES

October 3, 2023

Trea Turner

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Citizens Bank Park

Philadelphia Phillies

Postgame Press Conference

Q. Trea, in a short series, how crucial is a Game 1 win?

TREA TURNER: Yeah, the shorter the series, I think the more important Game 1 is. Kind of take that pressure off yourself. I think, if you don't score early, you don't win, you kind of start trying harder, and that's never necessarily a good thing.

Yeah, today was good. Zack was amazing, and offense did enough to win. So it was just a good team win. Roll in tomorrow and try to get it done.

Q. This being your first playoff game here as a Philly, how did the atmosphere measure up to what you expected?

TREA TURNER: Yeah, it was electric. It was a lot of fun. From the start, I think, intros is pretty funny. I laugh at just the energy and watching the other team kind of have to deal with it is always kind of fun.

But they were good. They were good all game from the first inning. On their feet every two strikes. It was fun to be a part of.

Q. And then 1 through 9, everybody had a hit. You had a good start from the starters, zeros from the bullpen. Just team-wide, is this how you guys would have drawn up a Game 1?

TREA TURNER: Yeah, we think everyone's here for a reason, and we all can contribute. We grind things out, whether it's offensively or pitching staff, whatever it may be. Like I said, Zack did good. The bullpen was awesome. Our at-bats, I thought, were pretty good off a good pitching staff. They got really good arms over there.

We knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we grind things out. It was a good team win.

Q. When you're behind Wheeler, you know there's going to be a lot of ground balls. What's it like to play behind him on a night when he's as locked in as he was tonight?

TREA TURNER: It's fun. No contact in the postseason is a good thing. It felt like he was striking everyone out. Then when they put the ball in play, it felt like weak contact, maybe other than Josh Bell. That guy was killing us. It was fun playing behind him when he's cooking like that.

Pitch count was low, and he was kind of just on cruise control. He's really good.
