AL WILD CARD SERIES: RANGERS VS RAYS

October 3, 2023

Evan Carter

St. Petersburg, Florida, USA

Tropicana Field

Texas Rangers

Postgame Press Conference

Texas 4, Tampa Bay 0.

Q. Evan, you've talked all along how nothing changes, right? Well, it's the postseason. Did anything change? Did you feel your heart beating a little faster, slow down, what?

EVAN CARTER: Yeah, we actually kind of made that a point, for me at least today, of just like, all right, postseason, we need to make sure we're calm, cool and collected in the box especially. But yeah, it's hard to do that, but I'm going to do my best to do that, and hopefully we can keep it rolling the whole series.

Q. What was your approach at the plate? It doesn't change, does it? It's the same?

EVAN CARTER: Yeah, you know, it's still a baseball game, same rules, all that. He's an incredible pitcher, and we knew that coming in. Just game plan the best that you can, prepare the best that you can, and we did a good job of that today.

Q. What was going through your mind on that catch in the first or second inning, whenever that was?

EVAN CARTER: Oh, gosh, the turf bounces a lot here, so I knew if I didn't get there, pull it up or anything, it was going to go to the roof, and it went over my head. It was either try and do that or dive, so hopefully I made it when I did. It turned out well.

Q. As a whole you guys offensively were kind of scrapping at the plate. You scrapped across a lot of runs. What were you seeing from yourself and the rest of the guys against glass and the rest of the pitchers today?

EVAN CARTER: Yeah, I think we controlled the zone really well today, put together a lot of good at-bats, a lot of walks, just not a lot of chasing from anybody today, so it was really good.

Q. What was it like playing behind Jordan Montgomery today? He was pretty efficient the whole time.

EVAN CARTER: Gosh, every start that I've been here, which has been four or five so far, it seems like he goes seven innings with no runs or one run. He's incredible. He's doing a great job.

Kudos to him, especially against a really good lineup with them.

Q. What was it like seeing Jordan get off the mound at 6'6" and made that diving play up along the first base line?

EVAN CARTER: That was electric. I was fired up. I was yelling at Leody. I thought maybe Nate was going to make a dive for it, but it turned out to be him, and that was awesome.

Q. It looked like Nate said "wow." Was the same thing going through your mind?

EVAN CARTER: Oh, my gosh, yeah. It was an incredible catch. And especially for somebody who's 6'6", big guy, moving really well to get over there. It was awesome.
