Quick Quotes

Q. You had a fantastic match. You came out of the blocks so fast, was that part of the game plan, knowing that you needed to get red on the board early?

MEGAN KHANG: Obviously I've played with Linn quite a few times in the past in a few tournaments and on the LPGA, but I knew she had -- I know she has the distance, (wind noise) playing off to the right, but I knew she would be a good match and I had to bring my A game, especially against Linn. It was a tough one, but I took it all the way to 18 and it was good.

Q. What did Stacy say to you before that first tee?

MEGAN KHANG: To get some red on the board.

Q. Seeing that Danielle also has won, you seem to be a bit of a fire spark for your team. Do you like being in that role?

MEGAN KHANG: You know, I love it. If my team needs me to be the cheerleader, I'm there. Right after we finish up here, I'm going to go back out there and root for my teammates and give them some fire to hopefully get the job done.

Q. How proud are you of your performance?

MEGAN KHANG: Super proud. When the draw came out and I had Linn first off, you know Linn was going to bring it, and I knew I had to do the exact same and hopefully come out on top. I took it all the way to 18 and she definitely made me work for it.

Q. Are you going to stay out and support your team?

MEGAN KHANG: 100 percent. I'm looking at the leaderboard right now, and we're going to go root for the red and hopefully get another one back.

Q. She made you work for it, but that was nails coming up 18.

MEGAN KHANG: Definitely. You know, I know Linn has the distance and she's a great ball-striker, so it was going to be a fun match knowing the matchup. But definitely 18, she had honors and smacked it down the fairway, and I was like, all right, I think she's going to get home in two here, and I told Jack, I go, she'll need an eagle to win the hole and thankfully hit a nice chip shot up myself and made the birdie putt. So very happy to come out on top.

Q. Your third Solheim Cup. It seems crazy to say that you're almost a veteran of this team, but to be unbeaten here, how much have you thrived on that responsibility as well?

MEGAN KHANG: It's huge. I think each of us have taken kind of a role as a cheerleader for our team when we need it and it's crazy to say it's my third, but I think this is the best Solheim I've had and hopefully it just getting better.

Q. I don't know how aware you are of what's going on around the course, but knowing that Leona had already won, how important was it for you to ensure that red --

MEGAN KHANG: I saw Rose on 18 and I knew that Leona was up, but it's super important for us to get that point and every point counts and even a half point.

Q. When you got that call up in the team room that you were first off, what were the emotions like for you?

MEGAN KHANG: I got you, Coach. I got you, Captain. Honestly, it's a huge honor to tee off first to lead the way for the girls, and we knew we had to come out swinging and put some red on the board. So Captain said get some red and put some red on the board early and hopefully we'll get enough red on board to get the Cup back.

Q. Feels like you've been kind of the emotional lead for this U.S. team this week. Do you take any, do you feel like you've taken on any leadership role?

MEGAN KHANG: No, I think I'm just a little more outspoken. I think in the team room a lot of us are doing our best and contributing together, but I think I'm just a little more outspoken, but definitely you'll hear me screaming out there later on.

Q. I saw you with the air pods in on the range. What were you listening to this morning?

MEGAN KHANG: It's a variety. I think today was a little like Posty, Post Malone, with like Jonas Brothers and it's everywhere, honestly.

Q. Energy levels coming out playing in that first match, how were you feeling on the first tee?

MEGAN KHANG: Oh, it's electric on the first tee. I think, you know, even if it's your second match of the day on the first two days, you kind of forget about it because the crowd there, the crowd's there to get you pumped up and you live for this week every two years. So, you know, it's something to just forget about because the adrenaline is getting you going.

Q. What were you telling yourself on that chip shot and then on the putt on 18?

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly, Linn had a great second shot in. I mean, she had a really good chance to make three, and I told Jack, If she's going to beat us she's going to have to make 3 because we're making 4. And I think that's just kind of the mentality that you have to take, knowing that Linn can get to the green and give herself 15-footer for eagle. She's a great putter, so I knew there was a big chance that she was going to make it. So happy to sneak by, but ready to go cheer on my teammates.
