PORTLAND CLASSIC

September 1, 2023

Ally Ewing

Portland, Oregon, USA

Columbia Edgewater Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Ally Ewing after a really great round here at the Portland Classic. Can we talk about your front nine first? You just got off to a really good start and kept it rolling. What was going so well for you on those first nine?

ALLY EWING: I was able to hit it pretty close on a lot of holes. Giving myself a lot of looks.

But overall the golf course is playing really soft the last two days with the rain obviously. You know, just being really precise with the numbers and was able to also convert the putts which is -- you know, you can hit it close but you got to convert it too.

That is kind of what helped me get hot out of the gates.

Q. Is that something you prefer, getting to be more aggressive towards the flag? Do you think that suits your game at all?

ALLY EWING: Yeah, I wouldn't say that it necessarily changed how I approach like my strategy of direction, so I'm still looking at making a couple of steps away from a pin from time to time.

As far as knowing a ball is not going to pitch and bounce 15 to 20 feet or something like that, knowing that I can pitch it right next to the hole, that definitely -- if I can be precise with my numbers and judge everything correctly, then it gives me some good looks for sure.

Q. Lots of excitement in the past couple days being named a captain's pick. Has this given you any energy, any motivation that's been helping with your game this week?

ALLY EWING: Probably not necessarily energy or motivation, but definitely I feel like I've been in good form. I'm excited for Spain. I can't wait.

But as far as kind of being a relief, I think to finally know that I'm on the team, you know, I remember my first one that I played on and being around the team atmosphere. Never rely on a pick; play your way on.

So that's kind of been my mentality for every Solheim, and luckily I had played really well. There were a lot of people that had played better, and Stacy trusted me and I'm excited to go to Spain in a few weeks.

Q. Speaking of which, Stacy is out here still watching. What has she said to you since those days being a captain's pick? Is there anything she wants you to work on? Any form she's looking at from you while you're playing the next couple weeks?

ALLY EWING: I don't think so. I think just as a whole, the biggest thing for Team USA is -- you know, Team Europe as well -- it's a collaborative effort of some of the best golfers in the world. So everyone has the skills; 24 of some of the top players.

So we know or golf is good. It's just putting it all together. We lost the last two, so I wouldn't say Stacy has given me advice or anything, it's just what can we do, what kind of form can we be in to lead into that week in Spain.

We're going to show up hopefully ready to try to get that Cup back.

Q. Last question. Back to the Portland Classic. You put together two solid rounds. How important is that going into moving day and can you -- do you feel like you're ready to chase tomorrow?

ALLY EWING: Yeah, for sure. I don't know how much the course will dry out over the course of 24 hours or whatever, but my game is in a really good spot, so I'll show up tomorrow, you know, ready to compete and give it my best no matter what.

I think the scores are typically pretty low here, so you know you need to make a lot of birdies. So through 36 holes I'm really happy with where I'm at. We'll do our best to go chase some people down over the weekend.
