PORTLAND CLASSIC

September 1, 2023

Xiyu Lin

Portland, Oregon, USA

Columbia Edgewater Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Xiyu Lin after her second round to the Portland Classic. Really good round for you today. I know 8-under is one the lowest scores we've had this week. What was working for you today?

XIYU LIN: I guess my putting was working a little better. I have been struggle a little bit and I've been doing some very minor changes.

And then yesterday was definitely off to a really rough start, but I am pretty proud of how I pull myself back.

And then yesterday finish on the right number was pretty good to me consider I was like 3-over after the first nine holes.

So today I just felt like just this course is very scorable, so I'm just going to try my best and then make lots of good putts.

So yeah, overall good round.

Q. Was to the rain that was getting to you yesterday or maybe what was different from yesterday versus today?

XIYU LIN: I definitely wasn't so ready for the wet conditions, so my striking wasn't so good either yesterday.

So today that's what the thing I've been working on, like try to have good iron striking and it's been really good all day.

And rain, yeah, just a little bit, just unexpected, everything. But I watch Megan's interview yesterday so I'm kind of telling myself, you need to put some stuff together, too.

So, yeah.

Q. I love that. Lots of birdies on the card for you today. What were maybe some of your favorite birdies or one that you remember that was really good?

XIYU LIN: I think in the middle when I made those birdies, 9, 10, 11, they were all pretty long length.

And then I just -- I didn't give myself too much pressure. I just like trying to find the best line and get the right pace.

And then it just really a nice feeling after quite a while I start to see the ball goes in again.

Q. You said long -- were they long putts?

XIYU LIN: They were around 25-footer-ish, yeah.

Q. And also bogey-free today I see. Where are the maybe the places where you need to avoid on this course to avoid mistakes?

XIYU LIN: I would say to me the back nine play a little harder than front. I save a really good par on 17. Like to have make a 15-footer to save par.

But I would say get on the fairway is definitely the key. And then miss on the right side of the green.

Then also it's pretty quick turnaround from last week with the firm greens. This week is a lot softer so on chipping there is lots of different strategies. I feel like those are the things I need to keep work on.

But I guess after today the conditions going to get a little drier, so I guess it's going to be a little bit firm on the weekend again.
