TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 27, 2023

Xander Schauffele

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

East Lake Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. If I told you you were going to shoot 62 today yesterday and still be five behind at the end, what would you have said to that?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, he played great. I didn't do enough, like I said yesterday. I thought 62 would have let me get close to him, but I think the closest I got to was three shots back. He played unbelievably well. He made important putts and he's just played like a champ.

Q. If you look at it from an outside view, how impressive was the golf you both played today in that final group of the TOUR Championship?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I'm sure we would have messed up a few best ball groups today if him and I were on the same team. I can tell you that much.

Q. When you look back on this day, what will you kind of think about this week?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I'll hold my head up high. It was the most fun I had losing in quite some time. It's such a weird feeling. I shot 62. I lost by five. Just kudos to Havi. He played unbelievably well the last few weeks to get himself into this position and to really just put a cherry on top for himself and his team.

Q. On Viktor, what has he done in the last five, six months that you feel like has brought him into that kind of elite status that he's kind of become?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I think he's managing his ball a little bit better. He's such a good iron player. He goes for a lot of pins. He hits a lot of fairways. So when he's in a bad spot, he plays away from the pin. His short game's gotten a lot better.

Yeah, I had a chance to get to two and he made that bomb on 15, which really hurt. And that was sort of what I felt like -- I was charging all day and I felt like that really put a stop to me.

Q. How much confidence do you take from what you've done the last few weeks building up towards the Ryder Cup, how much confidence in your game do you have going towards Rome?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's five weeks away, so I'm going to take some time off and I'm going to have to rebuild that confidence come Italy and the Ryder Cup.

But, yeah, I think it's definitely -- I think we're working on -- my team and I, we're working on the right stuff to get these results. Kind of playing sort of whatever coming into the playoffs to sort of peak and play really well at the right time is important, and so I think we're working on the right things.
