AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 12, 2023

Angel Yin

London, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Take us through your round today. Lots of birdies. What was going so well for you?

ANGEL YIN: I think stayed patient, played it safe, playing with the wind.

Obviously the wind was a big challenge so I was very mindful of the wind and I didn't force anything. I had eight birdies -- sorry, eight pars, not eight birdies -- I wish! (Laughing).

Eight pars, and on the back nine I got a few birdies. I was hoping for a bogey-free round but I had that hole. But it was okay. Didn't capitalise on the last two holes but that's also okay.

Q. You've been in this position before. What have you learned from the Chevron that may help you tomorrow?

ANGEL YIN: Honestly just stay patient. I don't know how the grouping is going to come out. I think if I get into like the final group, it will be my third final group this year, which is pretty good. Just got to stay patient and play my game. I think I'm going to be aggressive. I'm not going to be conservative. I'm going to give it my all.

Q. Alison said she's playing against the course, not the leaderboard. Do you feel that out there?

ANGEL YIN: I think that was my mentality before, but it's just so enjoy -- like to me, now my mentality has changed so much with golf. It's so much more enjoyable.

Back when I was six or seven years old when I picked up golf and why I picked up golf, it's just playing the game and you know, sometimes like you get a bad strategy, like my bogey today was trying to play smart but then it backfired and it's just, you played it wrong, and it's just a game. I think that's what so amazing about golf. I don't think I'm really playing against anyone or anything. I think it's just play my game and then enjoying it out there.

Q. Going into tomorrow, the gap has closed what?

ANGEL YIN: I think you're going to see a lot of aggressive and good golf. It's going to be great for the fans. The turnout this week is unbelievable, and as a golfer, you're appreciative of all the fans who come out, especially when the weather is like this; it's not that great. But out here, you know, supporting us as a whole, it's so amazing to see.
