AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 12, 2023

Lilia Vu

London, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. First place at a major, going into the last day, how are you feeling? What's your mentality?

LILIA VU: I think today was really about for me just in terms of confidence. It's been a while since I played -- I say awhile. It's been since Chevron that I actually felt pretty decent about my game and where it's at.

So I'm just going to do the same thing I did today, just focusing on tee shots and giving myself a good opportunity for birdies, and just do that tomorrow, not think too much about the wind. Because every time that happens, it just slips away from me.

Q. The last couple times, you've won, it's been by a couple-stroke deficit, and you closed the gap today. Why do you so well when you're coming from behind?

LILIA VU: I think today, I knew it was going to be difficult and if I was able to post a good score, I could move up pretty well, and I changed my mindset to just playing one shot at a time. It's the same thing every single time, but when I actually do that, it turns out really well.

Q. Do you find that maybe the nerves are different when you're in the lead going into the last day versus when you've got room to be aggressive?

LILIA VU: I think you're always nervous no matter what position you're in, because if you're leading, you kind of don't have the win yet. You never really have it until the final round, 72nd hole and you're done with your putt.

So I'm not going to be thinking too much about it. I'm just going to play my game tomorrow.

Q. Tomorrow also on the line is the Rolex Annika Major Award, a good finish, not just a win, would win you that award. What would it mean for you to win the Annika Major Award?

LILIA VU: I've never thought about winning that award to be honest. That would be huge. I mean, I had a rough go at the U.S. Open, KPMG. That would mean a lot if that were to happen.
