AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 11, 2023

Gemma Dryburgh

London, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Overall, pleased?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, quite pleased. I was kind of going along very steady and had that one bogey and then three in a row which is nice, so nice to come back from that and yeah, kind of comfortable coming into the weekend.

Q. When did you get that run of three in a row, are you riding the wave, just does it become easy? How does it work when you do something like that?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, because I had not made a birdie yet in the round so obviously once you make one, and then hit it quite close on that, was it 14, and then obviously rolled that in and next hole hit it quite close again and 16 is a reachable par 5, so you're hoping for a birdie there but just going watt flow and letting it go.

Q. And looking at 18, is it just a tricky hole for you?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, I hit what I thought was a good drive and I thought would just be in the first cut but it was in the thick rough, so came out really dead. Was in the bunker like well short of the green, so that was quite nice. It was actually quite a good bogey in the end.

Q. And we talked yesterday about the experience you're picking up, you have the win under your belt. Do you feel you're becoming more and more used to these types of stages?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, definitely. I made all the major cuts this year, so that's an achievement for me playing in them and making the cut, as well, so hopefully I can make the weekend and get close to the top 10.

Q. And we talked about the busload coming down. Did you hear them? Did you see them?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, they were loud which was fun. There was a bunch of them today. It was nice today to have a big cheer squad out there. But yeah, I could hear them for sure.

Q. And for context, that's from your home club?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, Beaconsfield Golf Club, so they are 45 minutes to an hour depending on the traffic on the M25.

Q. Are they coming down tomorrow?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: I believe there were 30 on the bus today so the rest of them, I guess them have to drive themselves. But I'm sure I'll see a few of them this weekend.

Q. And when you look at the leaderboards, when you see alley at the top, how hard to keep going and just finish as high as you can, when the leaderboard is as it is?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, I saw second place is at minus five, so only five shots behind. That's definitely right there. So obviously depends what alley does over the weekend. I played with her last week in the final round of the Scottish and she's playing really well, so I'm not surprised to see her up there.

Q. And the wind forecast tomorrow, does that suit you?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: I think so, yeah. I usually play well in the wind, so bring it on, I'd say.
