OMNIUM BANQUE NATIONALE

August 8, 2023

Bianca Andreescu

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Press Conference

C. GIORGI/B. Andreescu

6-3, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Bianca, Camila was always going to be a difficult opponent. What were the particular challenges that you faced tonight?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, she hits the ball very hard. She takes the ball very early. She goes for everything, and she acts like she's the boss on court, and she was the boss on court tonight. Not me, sadly.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Tough match. You refused some form of treatment on the court. First of all, are you injured? Were you injured in that second set?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, it's hard when I keep getting asked this question, like, if I'm healthy, what's going on. And in a way I am, but I'm not.

Last week during my match in Washington, I experienced some back pain. Some SI joint pain, to be exact. I've had this before. I've had to deal with it many times, actually.

Yeah, it got better for a few days, and then, you know, I started playing again, and then obviously I felt some irritation, but I saw some light at the end of the tunnel.

But with SI joint pain, it's very difficult because it's nothing very serious, but if you do push, you do feel a lot of pain. That's what I experienced one of the days practicing before the tournament.

And then, you know, practice and competing in a tournament is totally different. So obviously today I felt it a bit more, and it did impact my performance, sadly, so yeah.

Q. It seems like you had trouble at some point with her kick serve on your backhand and things specifically that she does with her kick serve on your backhand.

BIANCA ANDREESCU: It was because my back hurt, yeah. And obviously I was frustrated too, so it got into my head.

Q. Tough luck, but just in terms of looking ahead, you said it's not a serious thing, but if you push and sometimes you feel it, sometimes you don't, do you have a treatment plan or know kind of what you need to do with Cincinnati and the US Open coming around the corner?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, for sure. I'm going to speak to my team about that, but I definitely need to take a few days off.

It just sucks that it started during this tournament. Yeah, it really sucks. I don't know if I'm going to play Cincinnati. The goal is obviously US Open, so yeah.
