FREED GROUP WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

August 6, 2023

Celine Boutier

Troon, Scotland, UK

Dundonald Links

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Welcome, we are here at the FREED Group Women's Scottish Open presented by Trust Golf.

We are off the green after hoisting another trophy in two weeks. Just what does it feel to be a two-time champion in two weeks?

CELINE BOUTIER: Absolutely crazy. I don't even think I could have dreamt that it would happen but yeah, I mean, it's just been amazing to be able to play that well and I feel like to even have the chance to be in contention in the weekend this week was a complete bonus, and so yeah, to be able to hold the trophy again this week has been pretty insane.

Q. This is the second week in a row where you have converted a 54-hole lead into a victory. What was the mindset competent game plan going into this final round?

CELINE BOUTIER: Honestly, I just try to play my own game and sometimes it's not easy because I know that Hyo and I are great players, and so is the rest of the field. I knew someone could shoot a ow score. I was just trying to stay patient, not try to think ahead of myself.

Yeah, it was definitely a little bit of an up-and-down kind of round today and happy to get it done.

THE MODERATOR: A second place last year here at Dundonald, a first place and a trophy here this year. What is it about this course that just suits your game so well, and did you think of last year and last year's final day?

CELINE BOUTIER: Yeah, I mean, I feel like I actually got pretty good memories of my final round last year because I feel like I was in the final group and I managed to play pretty well. Like I just had a really incredible round.

But yeah, I had pretty good memories. I feel like I see the course very well. I feel like it suits my eyes, and just feel pretty comfortable.

I think it's very demanding with the weather conditions at times but it's kind of fun to be able to play different holes, and I know they play a lot with the tee boxes and different wind directions and stuff like that. So it's kind of fun to be able to see a different course every day.

THE COURT: A couple bogeys on the back nine that brought you back down-to-earth a little bit. Were there any nerves?

CELINE BOUTIER: Yeah, I was definitely nervous. It's tough to win out here and to be able to have the chances is always a little bit nerve-wracking. I feel like you always want to do your best but sometimes you can try to force it a little bit too much.

Definitely after my first bogey, I kind of was a little bit disappointed of how it happened, just that three-putt was kind of stupid.

But yeah, there were some tough shots and I feel like it's going to happen. I've been playing really good golf and sometimes my standard get way too high I guess but it is normal to make bogeys, so definitely tried to calm down a little bit and just try to go back to playing and hitting shots.

THE MODERATOR: Have you ever felt as comfortable playing golf as you have these past two weeks?

CELINE BOUTIER: It's hard to say. I wouldn't say I was comfortable today at all. I feel like I just pushed through. I didn't feel like my best game for sure.

But I feel like definitely the average of both of the weeks have been pretty good. I feel like they were both very demanding courses, and so I feel like it kind of forces me to really focus and have to dig deep a little bit.

Sometimes you're just so focused on doing and playing and hitting shots that it's kind of hard to really take in the full picture of how my game is, and I feel like golf is so frustrating that even when you win or like you shoot a good score, you say, oh, but that putt, that shot over there, I could have done better.

So I feel like that's definitely a little bit of a tricky situation but yeah, I'm definitely going to try to focus on the positives.

Q. This is obviously a career-year for you with three wins. Has this season changed your perspective on what you could accomplish over the course of your career?

CELINE BOUTIER: Definitely getting the win in the end of March in Arizona was definitely huge for me because I feel like I had been waiting for that one for a long time, and I came close last year two times.

But to be able to get it done in March relatively early in the season kind of helped me calm down a little and not be so hard on myself, and then just getting honestly the last two wins have just been completely unexpected to be honest.

But yeah, I feel like it's definitely -- I'm honestly going to try not to think too hard about the consequences of what it means and all that because I feel like that freaks me out.

But yeah, I mean, it's just been very, very good weeks.

THE MODERATOR: In general going into next week, what does a tournament win like this, what does the major victory last week as well do for your confidence heading into the AIG Women's Open?

CELINE BOUTIER: It definitely feels great. I feel like my game is in good condition. I'm not sure what to expect as far a the course next week because I've never played there and I don't think it's typical links.

So I'm just excited to see what it looks like and get a feel for it, so yeah, I'm going to try to start from scratch and get some solid rounds in next week as well.
