THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 30, 2023

Megan Khang

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, Megan, another Top 10 here at another major championship. What was the game plan going onto a day like this?

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly, I knew I was making birdies the whole week out here. Unfortunately the first two days it was just kind of windy and then I kind of got a little behind.

I mean, I think my second round I had seven bogeys, five birdies, and however many, six pars, and I was just kind of laughing at myself.

I was like, this is ridiculous. I'm making the putts, making the shots. Some silly bogeys and some unfortunate bounces. I mean, that's just golf. That's just Evian golf especially.

But I told myself, Jack, like, hey, I know I can make birdies out here. Fortunately, they moved some of the tees up on the par-5s and that caught me off guard. I mean, when you get stuff like that you have to try and take advantage of it.

It was pretty cool to really try to get as many birdies as I could out there. I worked on some chipping. Chipping was -- unfortunately I didn't chip out well yesterday, but chipped a bit this morning and got it figured out and got a lot more up and downs than previous days, so that definitely helps.

So limited the bogeys and hopefully -- I mean, I obviously don't know where I'll finish for this week, but I'm glad to get a good round going into the next couple weeks.

Q. Was there a particular birdie that really clicked during this round today, or was it just steady all the way through for you?

MEGAN KHANG: It was the second hole. I think I hit that green once this whole week and I missed it left again. I tugged it and I chipped in and I was like, all right, here we go. It's going to be a good day.

This whole week I've been hitting it solid. Today I just trusted my lines a lot more. They're very subtle out here, and so giving it a little more than I normally would definitely helped I think. Some putts dropped; some didn't.

I think the bogey kind of fired me up today, too. I bogeyed a par-5 and I was just kind of like, oh, my goodness. No one likes bogeying, especially on par-5s.

That was a tough one to eat. Bounced back with a couple birdies. Got a really good save on 8 and couple birdies on 9, 11, and it was nice because I had a couple tap-in birdies today.

I almost holed out on 4, so I was like, okay, here we go. It was a good day.

Q. One of those fun rounds.

MEGAN KHANG: One of those days where you're striking it well and then you're fortunate enough to have a couple tap-in birdies.

Q. These majors, this one and AIG coming up, huge for Solheim points. A round like this, to be in the Top 10, to be able grab so many Solheim Cup points with so much up for grabs, does that give you a little bit of satisfaction as well?

MEGAN KHANG: I mean, obviously Solheim is something in the back of everyone's mind given we have three more weeks not including this one, after this one is done.

I mean, I obviously know where I stand. I try not to think about it just because it can kind of consume you.

Q. Yeah.

MEGAN KHANG: I think they say majors are worth more, but at the end of the day we're all trying to win each week that we play. I always tell myself, you know, we're going to go try our best out there and put some good rounds together, try to get a win, the first win actually.

And, you know, everything kind of follows after that. And so I think if I just stick to doing my job and playing some good golf and hopefully, you know, keep playing solid, keep the game in good form, it'll eventually lead to Solheim and hopefully even more.

Q. Every time I talk to Nelly about it she says, good golf speaks for itself. Kind of the same sentiment.

MEGAN KHANG: It definitely does. You know, I think when you're just playing your game, and obviously golf -- you never know what you're going to get. You're going to get good days, bad days. I think the work you put in definitely shows. Nelly is a perfect example. She had an injury and she's crushing it. She is probably one of the hardest workers I know. Yeah, it's pretty cool to see her bounceback to quickly.

I'm looking at the birdies stat this week and I had like 19 birdies and it's so upsetting to me that I'm only 5-under. But just try and take more positives, and good golf speaks for itself. Just going to try to keep it going.

I always joke with Jack, we're trending, and so I would say we're trending in the right direction.

I love using that term, "trending."
