THE SENIOR OPEN PRESENTED BY ROLEX

July 28, 2023

Paul Lawrie

Porthcawl, Wales, United Kingdom

Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. What are your thoughts after that level round 71 today?

PAUL LAWRIE: Not quite so frustrating as yesterday because I didn't play quite as well, but still, just missed so many putts out there again. I just can't get the ball in the hole. I don't know if the greens are really slow or whether I'm decel-ing a wee bit with the putter, I don't know. But you just lost count of how many times you leave the ball six inches short right in the jaws.

But overall, 1-under for two days, it's not that easy out there. So I don't think it's that bad.

Q. I was going to say, a lot of the guys are having very similar problems. But do you take some comfort that even when arguably you're not running on all six cylindres, you're still there competing at the top of the leaderboard.

PAUL LAWRIE: It's just how golfers are. It's frustrating. When you play half-decent, you expect to get something out of it. Like yesterday, I got nothing out of that at all yesterday, and today, I got a little bit more out of it because I didn't play quite so well.

So overall, it is what it is. It's 1-under par. The course is not easy. There's only three or four ahead of that, so you go into the weekend in a good position, but I need to get some putts to the hole.

Q. Will you be practising between now and tomorrow?

PAUL LAWRIE: I think you'll find I might hit a few putts this afternoon, yeah.
