THE 151ST OPEN

July 23, 2023

Brandon Robinson Thompson

Hoylake, Merseyside, UK

Mixed Zone

.

Q. Brandon, your Open experience is finished; how would you sum up that round?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: The round today was good and bad, but I always take the positives from it. I hit a lot of good shots, holed some putts, and playing with Gary Woodland today, such a nice guy. Just helped enjoy the walk really.

Q. What have you learned from this whole Open experience and being out there?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: Maybe number one is it's extraordinarily fun to play in. It's the pinnacle of the game and it's what I've dreamt of, so it's exciting.

Maybe also knowing that I can compete a little bit, too.

Q. I know for you it wasn't just about coming here and making it to the weekend, but you did.

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: Yeah, of course. We set no expectation in our limit this week, but you always want to play four rounds, and it's four rounds at The Open. It's a major. It's my favourite event of the year.

Just very grateful and happy to be here.

Q. Does it make you want to come back again and again?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: And again and again and again. Yeah, it's brilliant. From the course to the fans to the Source Army that's been following me along, everybody that's been involved, it's just been epic. I couldn't ask for anything more this week.

Q. You mentioned your (indiscernible) who was here out following you. How much did he enjoy it?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: He did enjoy it. I think he did enjoy it. I think he's been enjoying it, but I think he's a little tired. He's been walking around every day, so I think he may have taken a few holes off today.

But I think he's made up. You'd have to ask him, but I think he's made up.

Q. What's coming up next for you?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: I've got three coming up in a row all in Britain, and then I've got a DP World Tour at Galgorm, the ISP Handa. So I've got a nice four-week stretch of golf coming up, so just looking forward to keeping rolling.

Q. What's the long-term plan? What are you aiming for?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: Top of the world, baby. That's it.

Q. What score would be really good today?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: Now?

Q. Now.

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: 73. Right now, it depends if it holds out. If it carries on like this for the duration, 75? It's just tough, isn't it?

Q. I guess for people who don't have to play competitive golf in this condition, we take days like this off. What makes it toughest?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: It's the unpredictability really. Usually when it's softer, we can pitch and land and it stops. We know how far it's going to go. When it's raining like this, for one, it's skidding all over the place, and then for example 16 I hit driver, 2-iron today just because it's heavy. The ball is going through the rain, the ball doesn't go as far.

Q. Did you hit it close?

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: No -- well, close, I was very happy with it. I was like 30 feet. Good enough.

A lot different than yesterday. It was driver, sand wedge. And then the rough gets heavy, the rough gets wet. Everything just gets a little more difficult, staying dry, your hands, your grips. Your caddie has got to work for his money, that's for sure.

Q. (Indiscernible).

BRANDON ROBINSON THOMPSON: No, the wind has been pretty consistent all day. I mean, it's coming down kind of sideways right now, looking outside. It's going to be tough. I hope it clears up for the remaining of the field. (Smiling).
