THE 151ST OPEN

July 23, 2023

Thomas Pieters

Hoylake, Merseyside, UK

Mixed Zone

.

Q. Just your thoughts on the final round today.

THOMAS PIETERS: I played like crap. I've been swinging it bad. I've just kind of been thinking too technical and just whatever. I had fun out there with my caddie, which is good. We had a lot of laughs, and that's it.

Q. How do you prepare for playing in finishes like this after the nice weather we've had over the last few days?

THOMAS PIETERS: I really like it. I was excited. Obviously when you shoot 1- or 2-under in these conditions it can go a long way, and obviously I just didn't have any game.

But I kind of like -- it's kind of sadistic to play in this kind of weather.

Q. Can you talk about what happened on 18? Looked like you thought the first had gone out but it hadn't.

THOMAS PIETERS: Yeah, just didn't take provisional. It's pretty stupid just from my part. Same thing on 7. I hit one left and officials thought it was out of bounds, but actually it was way up there and I had to go back to the tee, so two balls that were inbounds and I had to re-tee it.

It is what it is.

Q. I want to take you back to your first Ryder Cup, what a week it was. Talk about what was going through your mind teeing off for the first time in that environment?

THOMAS PIETERS: Not much. I was just so excited. Like everybody says, it's kind of a blur, a week like that. It's just excitement and just kind of proud that you could get there.
