THE 151ST OPEN

July 23, 2023

Ryan Fox

Hoylake, Merseyside, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Ryan, four holes in the dry, 14 in the wet. I guess that rather sums up your week.

RYAN FOX: Yeah, these are not my conditions. I've always struggled a little bit in the rain. I fight grip slips and water balls off the tee, and that's pretty much when I felt like for the most part all day.

Probably a couple unlucky bogeys early. I played pretty solid the first seven holes, and when the rain really came in it was just hang on for dear life.

And that back nine was pretty brutal. The ball was going nowhere and made a couple nice birdies on 15 and 17 to kind of stop the oil leaking too badly.

Q. Couple of early shots seemed to be finding the rough more than the fairways. Did you get a sense early on that this was a day that wasn't quite clicking?

RYAN FOX: Yeah, I mean, with the forecast you knew -- we got away with it yesterday, but you knew we were going to get hit with something, and today was the day. It was always going to be a fight.

I've been scrapping it around all week, and when you throw in conditions like this it's pretty hard to put a score together, and that's kind of what it felt like today.

Q. You said on Thursday that you've been struggling for about three months to find rhythm. Do you leave Hoyklake in better shape than you arrived?

RYAN FOX: I think for the most part I definitely saw some better shots the last couple of days. I actually played really nicely yesterday and didn't really get much out of it.

Today again I actually hit some half decent golf shots. It was just a struggle, and if you're a little bit off you got penalized massively today. Yeah, there was some good stuff, and looking forward to some hopefully warm and dry weather in the States the next couple of weeks.

Q. The major season is over now for this year. What's your immediate goals?

RYAN FOX: Immediate goal is to try to get a PGA TOUR card. I'm playing two events in the States the next two weeks to try to get a bit higher up the FedExCup points list and take some pressure off playing in the Fall Series. Yeah, that's the goal coming up.

But I guess after that -- shorter term goal is probably just to have a bit of a rest and recuperate for the back end of the year. It's been a pretty busy year to this point and after these two weeks I definitely need a bit of time off.

Q. And spend some time with the family?

RYAN FOX: Yep, the family is actually supposed to be coming up to Europe, which will be nice. So, yeah, looking forward to getting back and seeing them, and yeah, just putting the clubs away for a little bit.
