THE 151ST OPEN

July 20, 2023

Marcel Siem

Hoylake, Merseyside, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Take us through the round. What went well today? What was more difficult for you?

MARCEL SIEM: I was hitting it quite nicely off the tee. It's more a draw golf course, especially with the wind off the left the whole time. I did that really nicely.

Iron shots were a lot better than the last few weeks. I worked hard on that this week on the range.

I gave myself a lot of chances, but didn't really convert them with my putter, unfortunately, today, and then I missed a short putt on 10 or 11 to go to 4-under.

I had a little bit of a bad lie on the next and then hit it left and bad chip shot, and here we go, we've got a double on the card.

Then I hit it in the bunker on the par-5; is that 15? 14, 15? Was actually a good drive, but that's what happens here on this golf course. You're a little bit off line and you get very penalized. Level par is not too bad.

Q. You have plenty of experience; where you are, you're completely in contention, and that's the feeling for the rest of the week?

MARCEL SIEM: Yeah, it's just always a shame when you play really well and you get the minimum out of it. Sometimes it doesn't feel good after the round. I think tonight before I go to bed, I've got to be proud of myself to shoot level par on this golf course. It's a fantastic golf course. Great setup.
