Byeong Hun An

North Berwick, Scotland

The Renaissance Club

Quick Quotes

Q. That's a phenomenal round of golf, big smile on your face, of course, tie the record, 61. How enjoyable was that for you out there?

BYEONG HUN AN: It was nice, always, bogey-free 9-under par. I couldn't play any better. I drove it well and hit it well and chipped it well and putted well. That's a clean scorecard. Overall, very relaxed out there and weather has been nice so far today.

Q. Not just the birdies you made, but the par saves you made as well?

BYEONG HUN AN: Exactly. Those par saves, those always go a long ways. Birdies are good, but nice par saves and nice two-putts on some of those 40-, 50-footers. They help a lot and all went pretty well and that's why I have a clean scorecard.

Q. Not your first time in Scotland and on a links course, but coming into the week, how confident are you as a links player?

BYEONG HUN AN: I love it. I started on The Challenge Tour playing links course and played The Open many times. I like links golf. It's different than the courses we play in the U.S. You just have to land it in different spots. I really like it and as long as the weather is nice, and I prefer warm weather but a links course, I feel comfortable. It can get tricky hitting shots into but I think I did well today.

Q. How difficult do you find the adjustment to what you normally play?

BYEONG HUN AN: I usually have a lot of spin on the ball but you have to hit it like 40 yards short of the green and roll it up there, and same with the wedges, spin it back. So just adjust a little bit, pitch a little bit shorter, and try to leave yourself in a good spot.

Q. It's been a while since we've seen you over this side of the pond. How much are you enjoying the vibe this week with both tours mixed together?

BYEONG HUN AN: It's great. I feel like I'm back home. This is the Tour I started my professional career. It's been great coming back and like I said, playing links golf, definitely, it's nice.

Q. What a lovely day. The numbers, I got to follow you for the last five or six holes, your irons look good and then I went and checked your numbers and everybody is telling me your irons were absolutely fantastic. Would you agree?

BYEONG HUN AN: Yes, I agree. I hit a lot of shots close, a lot of wedges close. It's one of those days, every shot you hit is kind of, just has a perfect number. Pitched right, exactly, and how the ball reacted on the greens, everything was perfect. Some of the putts I had was very straightforward putts that I think I left in a good spot.

Overall today, everything went really well.

Q. I want to talk to you about the putting, but before we get to the putting, a lot of guys out there in our broadcast window are having a little bit of difficulty judging the wind, suggesting it might be flipping on them. Sounds like you had no issues with the wind out there and it wasn't flipping on you?

BYEONG HUN AN: Yeah, like I said, when you're playing well, everything goes your way. We had the wind going up and down a little bit but you can't do much about it, when the wind switches, you have to adjust to it and try to play that way. I feel like it wasn't a consistent wind today but at the same time when I hit it, it didn't switch right after I hit it.

So I think that went my way, and on a links course, everything could happen. But so far today, I think it went my way.

Q. The broom putter, the long putter, how long have you been playing around with it? Was it a long decision before you put it into play, a couple of weeks in play?

BYEONG HUN AN: This is my fourth week. I feel very comfortable with it. We switched it, I talked to other fellows who use the broomstick putter, Adam, Si Woo, asking the pros and cons about it, and spoke to my putting coach. We said, it looked good, felt good, and we are trying to get the hands out of it and that helps me a lot with the long putter.

So yeah, we kept it in the bag and I've been putting pretty decent past couple weeks. I just need more time with it.
