JOHN DEERE CLASSIC

July 6, 2023

Garrick Higgo

Silvis, Illinois, USA

TPC Deere Run

Press Conference

Q. Garrick Higgo, 6-under round for you today. What was going well out there for you on the course?

GARRICK HIGGO: Off the tee I was good, like I've been for a while now, but I felt like iron play was solid. I had some good decent iron shots, whereas in the past I would have at least a few that are no good.

I made some solid putts, too. Yeah, just solid round.

Q. Fairways and greens are important at every golf course, but you can really take advantage of them here, so how important is it to be able to do that? When you play as well as you did today, how can you make sure you keep finding those fairways and greens throughout the rest of the weekend?

GARRICK HIGGO: I'm in a good spot with my swings. I've been working really hard at it.

Yeah, just to stay patient. Being mentally strong is also really important.

Q. How difficult has it been to kind of learn how to be mentally strong when things aren't necessarily going your way out here on tour?

GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, I've learned a lot in the last two years, that's for sure, but I think I'll use that to my advantage.

Yeah, I'm not scared of failing, so...

Q. Is there anything you can point to that you have learned in that aspect?

GARRICK HIGGO: Just kind of enjoying the challenge of playing, you know, whether you are playing well or not. Whatever you have that day, just try and make the best of it, I would say.

Q. Coming down the final stretch on the PGA TOUR season, I believe you're 84th in the FedEx Cup standings. If you are able to finish inside the top 5 or top 10 you'll jump inside that top 70s for that playoff. Do you feel that pressure starting to rachet up now that you are on the outside looking in, or how does it feel going into the last few weeks?

GARRICK HIGGO: You can't control it, but yeah, that would be nice to finish in the top 70 and even higher. Yeah, it would be great.

But if it happens, it happens; if it doesn't, it's all right.

Q. Have you had to change anything in your schedule this year knowing that the change was going to go down to only 70 players to make the first playoff event? Did it change your outlook on the season at all?

GARRICK HIGGO: No, not really. I like playing, so I play a lot. It wasn't going to change anything.
