LIV GOLF ANDALUCIA

July 1, 2023

Bryson DeChambeau

Sotogrande, Spain

Real Club Valderrama

Crushers GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Bryson DeChambeau, the captain of Crushers GC. You are currently the solo leader, total at 9-under. You shot 8-under today. Tell us a little bit about your round.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, it was a fantastic round. I had a lot of great things happen to me, but I also struck it really like I've been wanting to, and whenever I got nervous I was able to stripe it down the middle or hit a shot that was in the right position on the golf course. I was pretty excited about the way I played today. Putted nicely.

Great, great up-and-down on 13. So happy that I was able to do that after pretty much almost whiffing the ball. Just caught the tree going back.

Other than that, I made a great birdie the next hole and eagled 17, obviously, which was huge obviously to push me to 8.

Q. Somebody told me that the fans broke through the ropes to get your signature and everyone was cheering you on. Talk about the fan experience here. Seems like you're a fan favorite.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I don't know about that. I think the Fireballs are. But certainly it was nice for them to show a lot of appreciation towards me, and it was fun hitting some bombs for them, and still, hey, on a tight golf course I'm playing pretty good, so give them a good show.

The fans are fantastic here. I can't wait to come back for hopefully future years. Looking forward to tomorrow, as well.

It's going to be a tough test. Job is not done. It's great to have a one-shot lead; it's an awesome position to be in, but that can go away like that, and if you're not careful, it can bite you.

You really have to be focused on each and every shot at hand and make the best decision you possibly can and execute the windy conditions it's not been easy the past couple days.

Q. Is there any extra pressure in that final group with Brooks and Talor, obviously knowing where their games are at right now?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, they're playing incredible. You've got a major champion and then a guy that's won two LIV events in a row. They're going to be biting at the heels, and I've just got to be steadfast and in my own little zone and get after it.

Q. Is this kind of the next step in your trend upward that we've seen obviously the last few months?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, it's taken a while to get back to what I was able to kind of feel and be comfortable with in 2018. The speed definitely is a huge positive. I learned a lot. I just wish I would have figured out what I did in 2018 faster because I feel like I could have played better golf the past five years.

But I played great golf. Moving in the right direction, and I've got a lot of golf years left, a lot of major championships, a lot of LIV events. It's only hopefully up and up.

Q. How impressive is it to go around this golf course bogey-free?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: That was my sole purpose of really grinding over that putt on 13. I'm like, I've got to make this putt on 13 for par because I wanted to shoot a bogey-free round out here, and it was awesome to be able to do that. Haven't done that in a long time.

Eagling 17 with the crowd and everything, it was a lot of fun. It was a fun way to finish. Almost felt like you won a tournament, but again, tomorrow, we have one more day.

Q. What have you learned the past two rounds that's going to help you get the job done tomorrow?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Well, hopefully it'll help me get the job done tomorrow, but it's a lot of patience. You can swing two shots one way or another, and it's not guaranteed anything. You can go bogey-bogey, and there's an opportunity for a wedge shot on the next hole.

It's really about patience out here, and if you don't get off to a good start or even if you do get off to a good start, you've still got to be cautious and focus on each and every shot being the best you possibly can make it and placing the ball in correct positions on the greens, making sure you've got good angles into greens, as well. It's a very strategic golf course, as well.

Q. I followed you around the back nine today and every hole it felt like the fans were cheering you on, and the atmosphere on 17 was something outside of a Ryder Cup, I've never seen fan support like that. What does that meant to you?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, it definitely felt with the chants and everything and the loud music, it definitely felt close to an atmosphere upwards of like a Ryder Cup. It definitely is a different vibe here, but it's nice to have the support of Europeans. It's a little different than a Ryder Cup in that regard. But it was fantastic. Walking up and hearing the chants and everything, I couldn't ask for anything more. It's great support out here, and I love the fans here. Great people.

Q. Is this what you want the LIV product to look like going forward, is more of like a golf festival than just all about the golf, where people are having a good time as well as watching you play?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I think that's our whole vision. Everybody's vision out here is to make golf a more enjoyable experience, have that shorter condensed time frame where people can go back home and have dinner, whatever, and not spend all day out here and they can see their favorite players. It's the LIV model, what we've always wanted to have since the inception. It's pretty spectacular what's going on in such a short time frame. Very, very pleased with how it's moving.
