BETFRED BRITISH MASTERS HOSTED BY SIR NICK FALDO

June 30, 2023

James Morrison

Sutton, Coldfield, England

The Belfry Hotel & Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. Bit more of a battle. Pleased with how you recovered from yesterday?

JAMES MORRISON: Yeah, made a few mistakes, first few holes, should have been 2-under par but should have been 2-over par. Missed a short putt for birdie putt, second and third, and then chipped in for par on the 4th. Could have been double quite easily but chipped in for a 4 there, and then just battled away all the way around.

You know it's going to be tough with the wind. But I just played -- hit all the right shots at the right time and ticked it along and kept it in play, and then hit 6-iron to about four feet on the last but missed it unfortunately. But under par out there today is pretty good.

Q. How nice is it possible playing on home soil again for the first time this year?

JAMES MORRISON: Oh, playing golf at home is unbelievable. Obviously here Monday, Tuesday. Went to cricket Wednesday. Went home Tuesday night, came back up Wednesday night. Nice to do those sort of things when you're at home. It's great to be home. Playing on home soil is brilliant.

Q. And playing on a golf course like this in the mix going into the weekend?

JAMES MORRISON: It's great because there's a few -- it's got a mix of all sorts, this course. It's a really tough stretch between 5 and 9. You kind of get through there, you feel like you've got a chance and then you get kind of whacked by 18 at the end.

The golf course does wield a lot of things. You haven't got to be super long. You've just got to be accurate, accurate off the tee, and chip and putt pretty well, which is kind of my thing, really. Weekend with Rosey doing well, hopefully keep the crowds up, should be good.

Q. I guess this is a course you'll have played a fair bit over your career. We've seen it evolve with the trees planted on 14, and now the course is getting tighter every year, isn't it?

JAMES MORRISON: Actually the first time I played it was COVID year. I wasn't on tour -- my first year was 2009, 2010, so I wasn't on tour when we played the events here.

So I've only played it in COVID times, and it's been in the winter or coming out of winter, so a bit of a different test.

But the course, even the last three years, has grown massively on me in how I like to see it with my eyes. And like I say, the trees going in, the course is pretty tight in areas.

So it's a good, solid golf course where you have to hit good shots and if you win around here on Sunday, you know you've had to play well to win, which is the whole point of it.
