WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 16, 2023

Chiara Horder

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Through to the quarterfinals here at the Women's Amateur. How happy are you with the way you're going so far?

CHIARA HORDER: I'm super happy. I mean, you always never know how like far you come and I just enjoyed the moment and I just had fun and here I am. So I'm super excited.

Q. Talk to us about your match this afternoon. How did it shape up out there?

CHIARA HORDER: I actually didn't start, I mean I started okay but my girl (Caitlin Peirce of Australia) went birdie, birdie start. So I was 2-down very easily. But I just stayed focused and just stayed where I am and knew I could handle it. So, yeah, I just fought back and it was fun.

Q. Do you enjoy match play?

CHIARA HORDER: I really do, yes. I love it.

Q. What is it about it in particular that you love?

CHIARA HORDER: Just that you can go for everything. You can mess up a hole, it doesn't matter if you have one bad hole you can just keep going. I just like it a lot. It's more chilling, I would say.

Q. And how, you've had quite a few matches now, you're playing some nice golf. How confident are you feeling heading into tomorrow?

CHIARA HORDER: I'm super confident. Obviously it's just about resting, it was a lot of golf now, but I'm super excited to just start the match and just see where I can go tomorrow.

Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself. When did you start playing golf?

CHIARA HORDER: I started very early. I started about like 10 years ago, I would say. Like really practicing and all of that. I was like two years old, I already had a club in my hand. So I've been playing a long time. So, yeah, it's been awhile.

Q. I'm guessing it was mum or dad that got you into golf then?

CHIARA HORDER: Yes, my mom. She actually works at a golf course back home in Germany. So we've been always at the golf course when we're little.

Q. And she is a good golfer, too?

CHIARA HORDER: She's all right. My dad is actually better, yes. They're like around 10, I would say. So pretty good. We golf a lot, yeah.

Q. How old were you do you think when you first started beating dad?

CHIARA HORDER: Oh, that's a good question. I hope he doesn't see that. I would say 15 probably.

Q. Who is your greatest inspiration when it comes to your golf? Like who do you admire and look up to?

CHIARA HORDER: Definitely on tour Nelly Korda. I just think she's super steady and it's just impressive how she can handle it. But I'm also looking up a lot to my brothers who also play golf also in college and, I don't know, they're just super inspiring and I've always been practicing with them, so it's super fun.

Q. What are your brothers names and what colleges do they go to?

CHIARA HORDER: Nicolas and he went to Little Rock. And Florian, he is just back at home studying. So, yeah.

Q. And they're good golfers, too, you said.

CHIARA HORDER: Yes.

Q. Who is the best golfer in the family?

CHIARA HORDER: Oh, that's a good question. Probably either Nicolas or me. I don't know. We have a lot of matches and sometimes he wins, sometimes I do. So, depends.

Q. What's your natural shot shape?

CHIARA HORDER: Usually a draw.

Q. What's your favorite club?

CHIARA HORDER: I would say my 8-iron.

Q. What's your favorite yardage for wedges?

CHIARA HORDER: Like 90, 95.

Q. What's the biggest strength of your game?

CHIARA HORDER: I would say off the tee. I like driving a lot.

Q. What's your miss?

CHIARA HORDER: My misses are just like more like hooks and I usually draw it a lot, so I struggle more with the left side.
