WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 16, 2023

Beth Coulter

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Through to the quarterfinals here at the Women's Amateur Championship. You must be very pleased.

BETH COULTER: Yeah, we had a great match out there and evening this morning. This afternoon made hard work of it coming in. I had two 2-putts on 16 and 17 but just misread them but I was confident 1-up going down 18 and finished it off.

Q. As you said could you have won a bit earlier than 18 but you have a real fighting mentality. Does that hold you in good stead tournaments like this?

BETH COULTER: Yeah, match play it's never over until it's over. I've always held that value and I think it's so important because even when you get down it's important to not let it get away from you. Yeah, I'm really happy this morning. I battled back a bit when it got away from me and this afternoon I tried to keep my foot on the gas when I got up. Really happy.

Q. It looked like you had some nice support with your match today. Is it nice to have that out there cheering you on and keeping you going?

BETH COULTER: Yeah, obviously the Irish crowd is here, and -- my caddie, even someone to talk to and have a craic with, and it's nice to not think about golf and even our golf teammates caddying for us, stuff like that. It's fun, match play, it definitely adds to it.

Q. This morning you beat the youngest player in the field, Lucy Lin who is only 13 years of age. Can you talk to us about that match? You did have to go to an extra hole.

BETH COULTER: Yeah, she's fab. He's definitely the next Rose. At 13, I was not hitting it as far as she was. She's a great putter and she has definitely a really bright future in the game of golf. Yeah, it was a great match.

Q. Looking ahead to tomorrow, what's the mentality for you?

BETH COULTER: Probably the same as today. I played well in the stroke play and I didn't play that good today. I holed some really nice putts this morning, nice clutch putts but my putting wasn't as good in the afternoon. Missed a few short ones. Work on the same things, hit fairways and greens and try to roll in a few putts.

Q. We see you playing well in R&A championships. How important is it to you to really keep going and try to make it to Sunday?

BETH COULTER: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of moving through the ranks, I think it's really cool and we have the 16 British Girls and this, I think it's taking confidence from that going as far as I can in 16s and then building on that. So yeah, I mean, it's fantastic. I love playing these championships, and we'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Q. Quick few facts about you. So what is your natural shot shape?

BETH COULTER: Draw.

Q. Is there a favourite club?

BETH COULTER: Definitely driver but now since I got my new putter probably putter. It's nice to see them going in.

Q. What is the new putter?

BETH COULTER: PING putter. I can't remember what it's called.

Q. What's your favourite yardage for wedges?

BETH COULTER: Probably around 97.

Q. What's your greatest strength of your game? Driving, putting?

BETH COULTER: Probably my length and being able to hole clutch putts.

Q. And if you have to miss, where is your miss? Is it left, right?

BETH COULTER: On a bad day probably left.
