SHOPRITE LPGA CLASSIC PRESENTED BY ACER

June 9, 2023

Georgia Hall

Galloway, New Jersey, USA

Seaview, A Dolce Hotel

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Georgia Hall after her first round at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer. Georgia, take us through your round today. Really good throughout the day and consistent. What do you like about this course and how does it suit your game?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, I think the wind can get up from time to time and it wasn't too bad this morning. But I can reach a lot of par-5s. My last couple I had 4-iron in, so it gives me a good look at eagle for some of the holes.

The greens are a little bit slow, which I kind of like. It kind of suits me.

So even though I had two three-putts actually I managed to get like eight birdies, so happy with the amount I made today.

Q. This being one of the shorter courses I think on our tour, you like playing here every year because you hit it so far?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, I feel I hit it a decent distance. I wouldn't say it's a pitch and putt by any means. I mean, I had 4-irons into two par-3s I think today, so some par-5s are short but then kind of makes up for it on the par-3s.

Just played steady today and see I can do tomorrow.

Q. Yeah. Lots of birdies on the card. Any in particular stand out to you?

GEORGIA HALL: I mean, I had a 12-, 15-footer on the 9th, which is my last hole. I was in between clubs and kind of knocked down a 4-iron. It was a perfect shot.

So I think that was the shot of the day for sure.

Q. Going into this tournament, it's only a three-day event in the middle of a busy stretch, why do you like playing here and how do you continue this momentum into just two more days?

GEORGIA HALL: I think the wind reminds me a little bit of home, like playing links golf courses. I really like -- really enjoy playing in the wind, so any time where there is a course with wind I'll probably be teeing it up.

It's a three-day event. Who doesn't love a three-day event? I do for sure. I think you have to get off to maybe a little bit quicker start. A normal event this would be day two now. I have two left. So happy with today.

I mean, course is in great condition.

Q. How are you using this week to prepare for the couple majors coming up?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, I mean, I'm here for two weeks now and then I get back to England next week, which is really nice. Get to unpack the suitcase for five, six days. I'll practice there and be kind of energized and fresh for KPMG.

Q. Why do you love three-day events?

GEORGIA HALL: I like three-day events because sometimes four days, we play so much of them. I'm very used to it. Sometimes it's nice feel like you need to get off to a bit of a quicker start.

It's more exciting. Like it's like day two. You've only got one day left and trying to be in contention. I think it's a lot of fun that way.

Q. How would you characterize the year you've had so far? Pair of second place finishes. A great season.

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, really well. Five Top 10s as well and being in contention quite a few times. Definitely the strongest year I've had to the start of the year.

I feel like I don't -- my game is in a very solid place. Not a lot goes wrong. Sometimes I hit a bad shot, but I kind of recover very well and stay patient that way.

So just trying to keep the momentum going.

Q. And just curious, do you look at the field, the other players? There are not many players in the Top 10 here. Do you look at that before the tournament begins or when you get here? Do you size up the competition, so to speak?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, I mean, when I'm playing practice rounds and practicing in general you can see who is here and who is not. When I played earlier in the year in Hawai'i I think it was a little bit weaker field there.

I don't mind it at all.

There are some really great players this week and in Hawai'i, and at the end of the day you have to play very well to win regardless. The whole broad spectrum of the LPGA is so strong anyway, so for me it doesn't matter. I'm just trying to play the best golf I can.
