ROLAND GARROS

June 5, 2023

Sara Sorribes Tormo

Paris, France

Press Conference

B. HADDAD MAIA/S. Sorribes Tormo

6-7, 6-3, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon. Sara, what an unbelievable tournament you've had despite your loss today. What do you take from this Roland Garros this year?

SARA SORRIBES TORMO: Well, I think it's been an amazing week and a half for me. I really enjoyed playing here. Yeah, I'm very happy to kind of be back playing these kind of matches.

THE MODERATOR: Thank you. Questions in English.

Q. Bad luck. On this match just how difficult was that physically playing for almost four hours at such a high level?

SARA SORRIBES TORMO: If I'm honest, I will tell you that I really enjoy it. It was difficult for sure because the match was very tough, but I really enjoy it, and that's the only thing I take.

Q. When you got ahead in the third set, did you think you were going to close it out or at least got level at 5-all?

SARA SORRIBES TORMO: I had this point for the 6-5, and yeah, I was just thinking to do what I had to do. Not to think which one could be the best option, where do I need to serve, or what do I have to do?

I knew it was going to be a tough match, so I was not thinking if I was going to close it or not. I was just focused on what I had to do, and I think she did it better in the end.

Q. Could I ask you about what happened yesterday in the doubles? There's been obviously a lot of reaction to it, and there's been some criticism of you and Marie Bouzkova with people saying you were trying to get your opponents defaulted. I mean, from your perspective what happened, and what was your involvement in out there?

SARA SORRIBES TORMO: Well, first of all, it's a very bad situation that happened yesterday. Also, for Marie and for me it's tough to have all this kind of things that people are saying. It's not easy because the only thing we've done yesterday was going to the referee and explain him what happened.

So, first of all, we were saying that the ball kid was crying because we were scared, because we were, oh, something happened. Then we were saying that the ball was direct because he didn't saw the ball.

All the rest the decision was taken by the supervisor, and I think it's not our thing or we haven't done anything bad. Yeah, that's the only thing I'm going to say about this, what happened yesterday.
