June 2, 2023

Sepp Straka

Dublin, Ohio, USA

Muirfield Village

Quick Quotes

Q. Good round today. Climbing the leaderboard. Just what was working for you?

SEPP STRAKA: Hit a lot of fairways. I didn't miss a whole lot of 'em. I hit my driver really well and that's a must out here. Then my iron play was pretty good. I hit a few that I didn't really like, but for the most part it was really good. So I was able to take advantage. And, yeah, the driver kind of made it a really steady round.

Q. What was the course like this morning compared to the challenge of yesterday?

SEPP STRAKA: Very different, yeah. It was really firm yesterday. Some of the pins you just couldn't even get close to. This morning it was a lot more gettable. Greens were still not soft, but enough where you could get enough spin on it to get it close to some pins.

Q. And as you kind of turn toward the weekend, what are you looking forward to?

SEPP STRAKA: Yeah, just keep playing steady. The round today was nice. Yesterday obviously conditions were a little tougher but it was a little more up-and-down, relied on my putter a lot more. Today was very steady. I felt like I hit a lot of fairways and I think that's the key.

Q. And then being at Jack's place, do you have a favorite story with Jack, anything involving him maybe as player, just you getting to meet him or anything?

SEPP STRAKA: No. The first time I met him was at the U.S. Amateur years back. I think, I can't remember, his grandson I think was playing. I can't remember who it was. But I met him there. My mom knew him from back when he was building a golf course in Austria, very, very loosely. So, yeah, no specifics.

Q. Have you played the course that he built in Austria?

SEPP STRAKA: Oh, yeah, yeah. Altentann. Just outside of the Salzburg.

Q. Is that, how close like to home was that for you?

SEPP STRAKA: I grew up in Vienna, so it was probably three and a half, four hours from where I grew up. But we played a few junior tournaments over there.
