ROLAND GARROS

May 29, 2023

Diego Schwartzman

Paris, France

Press Conference

D. SCHWARTZMAN/B. Zapata Miralles

1-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. How did you turn the results?

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN: Well, it was a tough match. At the beginning he was playing much better than me. I think on the second set I had my chances, and I start to improve my tennis, but I was not playing too many matches.

I was losing too many matches the last few months. So at the end of the second set with the chances I didn't take, maybe the confidence, maybe no rhythm, a few things.

But I have confidence in five sets, and I think at the start of the third he gave me a few opportunities to keep fighting for the match, and I took it.

When he started to make some mistakes and struggling with his rhythm, with his intensity, I took the chances. And the fifth was very tough, but I think from the final of the second set, my tennis was very good.

Q. Is this the beginning of a new something for you?

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN: No, I don't think so because I did great too many years here, so it's not a new beginning. I'm just maybe doing what I did for many, many years.

I have different goals, different challenges this year, but for me it's okay. I won in five sets like I did many times, and it's not a new thing for me. So, yeah, I'm very happy because I was not doing my best, but it's okay.
