COGNIZANT FOUNDERS CUP

May 10, 2023

Hannah Green

Clifton, New Jersey, USA

Upper Montclair Country Club

Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: All right, welcome to the media center everybody here at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Here with Hannah Green, our most recent tour champion.

Coming off two weeks since your third win, how are you feeling? How have you absorbed the victory?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I guess last week we were at the International Crown so it was kind of a quick turnover. The previous two wins I've had on tour I've been able to go back to Australia and celebrate, so it's been a little bit different.

I must admit I'm feeling a little bit tired. This is my fourth week in a row. I'm still probably on Cloud 9. I think that helped me push through last week, and I'm super excited to come and play this event this week.

Q. Speaking of last week, getting to play alongside your fellow Aussies, what did they say to you about your victory?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, we had so much fun. Even though the result wasn't what we wanted on the last day, I think we probably had the most fun as a team.

It was nice to just hang out with them off the course, because obviously sometimes golf can be pretty lonely in that sense.

Yeah, we had so much fun, so many laughs. My stomach almost hurt from the amount of laughter we had last week. We all played really well.

Even though I won the previous week I think Steph was in really great form, and I'm really skated about all our seasons this year. We all played really well, and that's what you need to do in a match play situation.

Now coming to a tournament we need to keep pushing and hopefully do our best.

Q. How does it feel to be competing against these ladies again, being more competitive against them instead of with them?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, it's different for sure. I think it would be different if I was paired with them from being like playing alongside them versus now, being against them.

But obviously we want to see Australian flags at the top of the leaderboard, if not hoisting the trophy.

Q. You mentioned being a little tired. How are you looking forward to this week and managing that after four weeks on the road?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I decided to not take the red sigh from San Francisco to New Jersey, so I'm hoping that somewhat helped. Yesterday I just played nine holes pretty late in the day and saw the front nine for the first time today in the pro-am.

Hoping that will keep me as fresh as possible for the rest of week. I have a really nice pairing with Lydia and Nelly, and I am looking forward to playing with them the next couple days.

Again, this is my first time to the event. I didn't play here last year. I was back in Australia. I'm going back home on Monday, so I'm so close to being home. I got to make sure that I remember I'm here to win a golf tournament and I'm not in Australia yet.

Q. So never played Upper Montclair Country Club before. What was your impression of the course and some of its challenges for the week?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, it's super nice. I think the challenges are probably the greens, maybe especially more so for us that played at Harding Park because they're much quicker. There is a lot of break on these greens, so it's quite hard to hole putts out here.

Off the tee it's still somewhat tight. The fairways are quite narrow. I think depending on how they set it up it's going to be quite tough scoring.

Q. This week is a big week for the LPGA and our Founders and our Girls Golf. This week is all about past, present, and future. Playing in the Founders Cup for the first time here, but what do the Founders just mean to you personally?

HANNAH GREEN: I mean, we wouldn't all be right here right now if they weren't -- if they didn't be courageous and start the LPGA Tour.

Obviously very grateful for them, and it's great that they come out here and see us play. Hopefully they feel like they've helped out, even though they're not playing anymore.

Every LPGA Tour player feels like that's what they want to do. Not only win tournaments and have trophies, but make sure that the future of the game is going in the right direction.

I certainly think that's happening.

Q. Our pioneers also this week, Betsy and Pia, any experience with either of those ladies?

HANNAH GREEN: No. I mean, I played the Founders Cup a couple years ago, but no, I haven't really personally met these ladies. Hoping to see them on 18 green. It's just nice that they come to the event and we get to see them and read more about them and learn more about them when they're out here.

Q. On the opposite end, lots of girls out here this week, Girls Golf. What does it mean to you to be able to represent your country, yourself, in front of these girls who love the game?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I hope that we're inspiring them. I never got the opportunity to watch LPGA golf or women's golf live in person, so for them to have that opportunity, I think that really makes a difference. Seeing us be able to do it live is hopefully inspiring them to somewhat want to play golf, whether that is just playing golf with their dad, going to the driving range, playing mini golf, whatever it may be, just to get them within the game I think is really important.

Q. Last question from me: What would you say is the best trend in your game that has led to your success this season that you hope to carry into this week?

HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I think usually the thing that changes when I think you win is putting. At Wilshire I felt really comfortable on the greens. I played there for every year that we played at Wilshire Country Club.

Still going to try and get used to Upper Montclair, but I feel like I'm rolling the ball well on the green and that's very important, too. Hopefully see a few long ones go in this week.

THE MODERATOR: Amazing. Good luck.

HANNAH GREEN: Thank you.
