NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS: LAKERS vs WARRIORS

May 2, 2023

Kevon Looney

San Francisco, California, USA

Media Conference

Los Angeles Lakers 117, Golden State Warriors 112

Q. You got 23 rebounds, AD got 23 rebounds, what was that tussle like going up against him.

KEVON LOONEY: It was fun. He's a great player. He got it going early. He did a good job of conducting his business. Tried to slow him down a little bit.

Q. How different from the Kings, and how specifically is a guy like Sabonis to Anthony Davis?

KEVON LOONEY: Definitely an adjustment, totally different styles of play. The Kings offense is very similar to ours. Lakers play a little different. So definitely quick turnaround for me -- preparing in the last series, I learn on the fly but used to doing that and I feel like we're going to make adjustments and figure it out.

Q. When you guys are in your 2-big look, which obviously you still want to play, what is the key to I guess beating the way that they are defending you?

KEVON LOONEY: The thing is stay in space and don't get bogged up in playing -- I think we did a good job, in the first quarter of getting great looks. Me and Draymond seen this type of defense a lot since I've been playing with him. It's nothing we're not used to. We've just got to get used to, and I think it will be some adjusting to figure it out. When we do get a ball -- inaudible -- slow it down.

Q. You guys make that 14-0 run to come back and tie, what was the biggest stretch in your estimation in this game that kind of turned it?

KEVON LOONEY: I think we were able to get stops. It was a stretch we were able to get stops and when we did get stops we weren't able to get the rebound, so that last group did a great job of getting stops and playing in transition, didn't have to play set defense and stop fouling as much as we did earlier in why the half. I think that was probably the biggest key, getting stops and not fouling. When we was able to play -- indiscernible -- free throw and in transition -- I think third quarter, we were getting fouled and they slowed us down and able to get set defense.

Q. When you look at the free throw disparity tonight, did that have more to do with the different styles of play between two teams or more so things that you guys were controlling?

KEVON LOONEY: It's a little bit of both, but I think we had a lot of silly fouls -- I had two, in the bonus I reached over -- free throw line, a couple were reachers, foul short, different things like that. We have to limit it. Coming into the game we knew they would use their basic shift and if they get to the free throw line -- indiscernible -- the game plan that we focused on and did a good job in the first half.
