Dean Burmester

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

The Grange

Stinger GC

Quick Quotes

Q. You got off to a hot start.

DEAN BURMESTER: Yeah, crazy hot start. You don't do that every day, do you. Birdie-eagle-birdie to start, especially eagle on the par-4 at 370 yards or whatever it is. I didn't expect to hit it on the green. I felt like it was somewhere nearby, and I walked up and it was like 12 feet.

Q. Did you see that in practice that you were going to be able to drive that green?

DEAN BURMESTER: I didn't think I was going to be able to drive it to be honest in practice, but I think I just got a really big bounce, and it worked in our favor. My caddie and I discussed 10 short of that green today, where the pin is, is pretty good. That's where I thought I'd get it, about 10, 20 short.

Q. Do you have a lot of experience on Australian courses?

DEAN BURMESTER: Not really. This is my first time in Australia, so first time here. I got experience on this one, we've been here since Sunday, so we've played it enough times. I love it. Australian golf is real fun.

Q. Did you think that this was a course once you saw it a few times that was going to fit your game?

DEAN BURMESTER: Yeah, look, I like the back nine, which is ironically -- I didn't play that great today, but I think if you hit it good, it rewards good play. I think Talor Gooch shot 10-under. That just shows you how low you can go, the greens rolling as good as they are. Obviously he hit it pretty well, and I'm happy with that, but hopefully we don't hit too many off line, we can keep it the way I'm going, and yeah, we can do more of the same.

Q. When you guys walked off I think you were tied for the lead, but how good was it to get that start and of course you guys played together?

DEAN BURMESTER: Yeah, I mean, look, all four of us get on really well, and to see Charl play well, he was doubtful whether he was even going to tee off this morning. For him to play well, he unfortunately didn't finish great, but still put a solid round of golf together, and our captain, Louis, as well. We all know Branden is going to come back and come good, so if the three of us can keep going, we know Branden is going to put in a low one.

Q. What's Charl's deal?

DEAN BURMESTER: He's got a bit of a nerve, feels like a nerve might be pinching in his shoulder or his elbow. Left side, so it's a little nasty. Look, he managed himself well today and swung within himself. If he can do that the next two days, I think he'll be doing okay.

Q. One last question about the crowds.

DEAN BURMESTER: Yeah, I mean, unbelievable. The energy is next level. It's a small golf course, so 25,000 people feels like 50,000 people. It's really fun. I had a lot of people shouting for the Stingers and the South Africans, so it was good to have a bit of support for us. I'm sure the Rippers had a hell of a day today. It was awesome.
