April 20, 2023

Sahith Theegala

Justin Suh

Avondale, Louisiana, USA

TPC Louisiana

Quick Quotes

Q. Just want to get opening comments about having a fun first round out there today.

JUSTIN SUH: I thought Sahith put it well, we just ham and egged it well. Kind of a slow start parring No. 11 for both of us, but I was able to roll a couple.

Then on our back nine, Sahith made an eagle on 18 and another eagle on the front. It was great to watch. Then we just ham and egged it well and made some really good par saves and kept the round going.

Q. Just kind of talk about how this team came about. I know you guys played Ryder Cup -- not Ryder Cup. Palmer Cup together in 2018. When did the partnership come about saying you were going to play this event?

SAHITH THEEGALA: I feel like me and Justin have known each other so long, and we're good buddies and both pretty laid back. We've been going back and forth since we were like 10 years old, it feels like.

I don't even remember -- I think I brought it up at Napa, like the first event of the year, because I was pumped that Justin got his card. I was like, dude, let's fire up a team. Let's be a team for this event.

Then we like casually said yes but not set in stone kind of thing.

JUSTIN SUH: I think we had to remind each other at Riviera. Are you still in? Yeah, I'm still in. Are you in? We just committed to it, and it worked out great.

SAHITH THEEGALA: I think that's kind of our personalities too. Kind of go with the flow and have a good time.

Q. How much kind of prior playing experience have you guys had together?

SAHITH THEEGALA: We've played a bunch of tournaments together. Junior golf, I played with him when he won State in California. Played in college a bunch.

We actually haven't played as a pro.

JUSTIN SUH: No, I don't think --

SAHITH THEEGALA: Until now, I don't think.

JUSTIN SUH: This entire year, I don't think we got paired once.

SAHITH THEEGALA: We played double digit rounds together, and then the Palmer Cup too. That was the only point I got was with Justin. So good vibes together.

Q. What about each other's games complements the other?

JUSTIN SUH: I think he's really good at seeing shots. Especially with the putter, you saw on the last hole, he hoops it. He's really good at making these birdies.

I think what I bring is I just try to play as consistent as I can. I'll probably be a little more conservative than most guys, but for best ball, if one's out of position, one needs to be in play, and I think we're really good at just ham and egging that.

SAHITH THEEGALA: Agreed. Justin made some huge par saves and got us going with a couple birdie putts early and kind of settled the nerves.

I played with this guy for so long. This guy is a hooper. He just sets up to the putt and looks like he's going to make it. And I feel like the best part of my game is my short game too.

I just feel like we're never going to be out of a hole, which is a nice feeling.

Q. Aesthetically pleasing on the outfits today. Did you do some planning?

JUSTIN SUH: Honestly, didn't even recognize it until now. Just worked out.

SAHITH THEEGALA: Neither did I.

JUSTIN SUH: Just worked out.
