Quick Quotes

Q. What is it about this place for the last two years? I know you made that great birdie at the 18th, just coming up one shot shy of the playoff there, but again, outstanding play this week.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I played well. It's a golf course that I really like, and I've played well at a lot. I've been close a lot, so hopefully someday I'll be able to close the deal here.

Q. What was it like on that back nine playing with those two guys right in the same group and knowing exactly what you had to do to hang in there with those two?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it was a good fight. It was tough with the wind how it was, and birdies were tough to come by, but overall I played well. I hit a lot of really good shots and made a lot of nice putts. Just one short.

Q. We also talked to Xander Schauffele earlier, and now the two of you go defend the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, that's a tournament that we enjoy next week, so we're looking to defend.

Q. Can I ask you about 14; had you ever seen a more precarious where the ball stayed than that one?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, that chip was obviously faster than it looked. Jordan hit it past and I did, as well. Yeah, it was in a spot that you never practice or play from with it being wedged in between the bulkhead there. Yeah, it was precarious.

Q. Did you waver a few times to drop it or you were going to hit it all the way and just needed to know how you were going to play it?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I just needed to make sure I was totally committed to what I decided to do there. I wasn't decided until the end, but ultimately I thought that if I would have dropped it, it would have meant double bogey more than likely, and I wanted to at least give myself a chance to stay in the golf tournament and try and get it up-and-down, which I did.

Q. I want to ask you about 13, the hole before. What sort of options did you have on that pitch shot that you ended up playing?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I could have played safer out to the right, but ultimately I just tried to hit a big flop shot. It was actually pretty good, it just carried a little far.

Q. I know it didn't turn out the way you were looking today, but just the overall confidence it gives you going forward.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I've been playing well for a while now and haven't really got any victories. Sometimes they come in bunches, so hopefully that happens soon.
