Patrick Cantlay

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA

Harbour Town Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Patrick, we'll start with the ace. Just the number of the club and what you kind of saw coming off the club face.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it was just a perfect 6-iron number, a little into the wind, high 190s to the hole. A one-yard cut that just came off perfect.

Q. That's number three on the PGA TOUR for you if I'm not mistaken?

PATRICK CANTLAY: That's right.

Q. What was the kind of crowd reaction when the ball went in the hole?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, they went nuts. There's a bunch of fans around that 7th green, so it was nice to show off for them a little bit.

Q. Let's talk about the rest of the day. How would you describe the rest of your round?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I thought I played really well all day today. I drove the ball well and gave myself a lot of chances. Made a few more putts on my first nine than the back nine, but I'm in a really good spot come the weekend on a golf course I really like.

Q. Why does this golf course seem to fit your game so well?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think it really demands you shape the golf ball off the tee, and it paints a really good picture for what you're supposed to do on every hole, which is something I like.

And you have to drive it really straight, which is one of my strengths.

Q. Do you kind of draw on the way you played here last year going into the weekend? Just a lot of good feelings here at Harbour Town?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Definitely. I think it's a golf course with some local knowledge, and I've played this tournament a lot and played well. So I'll carry all that good momentum coming into the weekend.

Q. What's maybe the one thing that you're going to key on the next couple days to hopefully stay in contention to possibly put on the tar tan jacket this year?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think this golf course is really about driving the ball in the fairway. If you do, you'll have a lot of chances.

I'm going to keep trying to do my game plan as much as possible, and that's in general be aggressive off the tee but not necessarily air it out. Really try to hit the right shape shot off the tee and leave myself a lot of wedges.
